Thank you -- she does like it very much -- we are in Holmes County, Ohio the heart of Amish country, and the dough box fits right in!

Only have ever seen a couple of those. One in an antique shop in Maine I was very interested in, but no way to get it home. I have a little different interest in one though, I would buy it to use it. Yours is very nice.

Also not too far from you........Carroll County.

My Great Grandparents were part of a Mennonite colony that moved to South Dakota on the heels of Custer et al. They spoke what my Grandmother called "Low German"; Grandma was fluent in it.

Family story says they were Prussian(or White Prussian?), moved to Odessa Ukraine in 1850's or 60's to help farm. But by 1870's or 80's, Ukraine's wanted them out, so they came back to Germany, and then to US to escape persecution.

It is interesting, my Uncle went back to the area where my Grandparents came from(Yankton SD). Went to one of the remaining Mennonite settlements. He got out of the car, looking for someone who he had arranged to meet. Someone that was there looked him up and down, and with no other knowledge of my Uncle, said "You're a Waldner, aren't you". The guys was right on; our lineage on that side of the family was Waldner's that had come over from Germany .

Isn't that the style German the Pa Dutch speak?

My grandparents (both sides) were Pa Dutch...Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

There's a saying that goes:

"Always take a Deutschman for what he means and not what he says"
