Well, after all that fuss, it turns out I was not low on hydraulic fluid. Looks like I was just having trouble reading that silly little view port that is supposed to tell you how you're doing on fluid.
The picture I have attached here shows that little window thingy when I believe I really was low on fluid. This was shortly after delivery, and I think what happened was when my tractor broker installed the loader, he didn't bring the fluid level quite back to snuff. I went ahead and changed the fluid at that time, just so's I'd know what the real story was myself.
I've never been fond of this type of indicator, or dipsticks either, for that matter. Everything has to be just so to get a good reading (vehicle level, engine off, implements lowered, wait for unspecified period of time, etc.), and then the lighting has to be perfect (I rarely see it as clearly as you see in this flash-lit picture). And then you still may not know what your fluid level is -- only if you have "enough".
The window thingy I think is the worse 'cuz a tad too much looks very much the same as a tad too little. Although the manual doesn't say it specifically, I think the background looks a little yellower when viewed through fluid. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif
Sound like I'm trying too hard to make excuses for my own ineptness? Well, yeah, maybe, but I'd still like a better way to guage my fluid levels. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
