people asking to fish pond. what to do

We have had a 2 Acre pond on our Farm for 40 yrs.....I made the mistake of letting the neighbor fish in it...I had to stop him after he almost fished the lake out of fish...I had to buy the fish to stock the pond again....Even though our pond is in the middle of a heavy wooded area we have trespassers and poachers....I have given the Fish and Game people a signed form to allow them to arrest folks on the spot when and if they catch them....
If you let this start ...my experience tells me you will never be able to stop it....A pond and a swimming pool are a blessing and a CURSE....everyone feels like they should be able to use it and you are selfish if you do not allow it...Just wait until you have to clean up their mess, beer cans etc. and if you have a boat, they will use it, if it is chained and locked they will cut the chain....:2cents: I hope you make the right decision....Now at the beginning is the time to draw the line...not later..

In New Jersey the law is that people are not trespassing unless: The property is fenced, is Posted, or the person has been previously told they are not allowed there. So I posted my property for my protection.

I post our place because it is limits our liability. It is pretty hard to sue a property owner when one is committing a criminal act. Generally in NC, you have to post land to trigger a trespass charge but some counties require a person to have written permission, in hand, if on the land of another.
No way would I allow people to fish a pond on our place. Just asking for trouble. I tell people who want to hunt our land, that family hunts the place and that shuts them up.

If I had a nickle for every time someone asked to fish our pond, well..you know the rest. I tell then, its for family only and even then you have to watch them as well. People take advantage of it and start bringing there friends too. I had some SOB who was buying equipment from me pull out his rod and started fishing. Didn't ask or nothing. He didn't stay long. Made the sale and told him goodbye. The land is posted but some people don't care.

A lot depends on your state's laws. IIRC NH releases the landowner of any liability if they allow the public access to their property.
The way I heard it is-
'Trespassers will be shot, Survivors will be shot again'
Or 'trespassers will be merely beaten to a pulp'

Well life has a way of being funny wife is going into labor with our first today and guess who rolls down the road? I confronted them and said no fishing we have just moved in and are trying to figure things out. A good friend of mine may come over and install cattle fence and gate which i have already when we go to hospital. If not ill do it myself when I'm off work for leave. They are to not be on the property though. I do have one posted sing on the entrence No hunting or fishing the stander yellow kind. I like the colorful ideas about you are now in range ect.
