Yep Soundguy,
Bob and Transit suggested that. About 5 amps per plug. I plan on checking that myself if the dealer tech didn't.
Thanks

Just another thought - you could have low voltage at the glow plug buss bar (if fitted). If so check the relay and primary wire in the same way you check the plugs...

Yep, good idea. I had to replace the Auxiliary hydraulics relay due to corroded connections on that relay. I think it was caused by gulf coast salty air.
Thanks again.

I just had a problem with my 580k kind of like this. It would start real hard if the temp dropped below about 50. One day after using it I went to start the tractor and it still wouldn't start. It turned out the starter had gotten weak and I was just use to the speed at which it turned the motor so I didn't think much of it. Once the new starter was bolted on it starts in couple of seconds and I swear it's about twice as fast. Not sure if that helps you at all but I've always had starters just die and just drain the battery.

Wa5vpo, I would think the phrase Charging Voltage would say it all.
As for Bisons suggestion I can see his point, however I am not comfortable doing it that way.

Depending on how the plugs are installed in the engine, screw in or press fit with a yoke, there is a risk of breaking the plug in the engine.
Re-installing the plugs, everything must be clean, maybe new copper sealing washers, if not you could have a compression leak.

As for testing the plugs at the battery terminals, the plug tip will get RED HOT, you will need 14 Ga wire for the current and the body of the plug must contact the battery terminal NEVER the hot tip.

Batteries emit HYDROGEN GAS. Think "Hindenburgh."

Many people have been severely injured by exploding batteries. I know NOTHING about testing glow plugs, but I would NOT have a "red hot" (resistance-heated) element anywhere NEAR a battery, due to the risk of explosion.

There MUST be a better (read "SAFE") way to test these things.

How about using good, heavy duty jumper cables, to get the juice and ground to the plug, away from the (gas-emitting) battery?

Play safe and good luck.

Disagree. It's one way, but not the best way.

Totally unnecessary.

Okay...the "mother/daughter" comparison might have been "Totally unnecessary" but I agreed with it--and it made me HAPPY. :D:laughing::thumbsup:

Sometimes a little humor goes a long way, you know? JMO--no offense intended--to anyone.

(And I'm not commenting on the best way to test glow plugs, Bob Rooks--you'll see from my other post that testing them on the battery would seem to present a risk of potentially VERY injurious explosion. I just liked the humorous aside, as I say....)

If I've offended anyone, please allow me to apologize. Some people don't appreciate my sense of humor--I'm hoping Bison does, at least? :)

I have tested many glowplugs this way over the course of 40 yrs.Never had a problem.:p
If one is scared the batt might explode one can use booster cables;)

I like a good laugh now and then, bring all you want:thumbsup:
Life would be dull without humor or a sense of it.

Bison,

Great minds think alike, huh? Re: your booster cable suggestion, that is why I said this, in my earlier post:

And I especially appreciated this comment of yours:

Couldn't agree more! I'm assuming this is a "family site," so I'll continue to exercise due restraint, but for those that want to read between the lines, now and then, I agree:
