Pet owners-Frontline flea and tick

regular Frontline and Frontline + will kill fleas, and the plus will cause the fleas that are hatched from the eggs to become sterile. Just remember that any insecticide doesn't kill like a gun. It takes time for the chemical to react with the insect. In that time period, the flea can and will lay eggs that will later hatch. This is an over simplification of the process, but is generalized enough for you to get the idea. Just remember, "if you sleep with dogs, you will wake up with fleas" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not to disagree /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif , but I thought the + prevented the eggs from hatching.
The back of the box reads, "Research demonstrates that Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae for up to three months."
I've heard of one of them that renders the adults or the newly hatched fleas sterile, effictively breaking the life cycle, but I didn't think the FL+ was it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Garlic won't fully protect your dog. I might go as far as to say "better than nothing" but would use caution even to say that. Show me the science...

Those knock offs only work on a knock off dog. Say a mut that looks kinda like a black lab!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK...... you win..... I am going by memory, and at my age, that memory is quite dark. Too lazy to go down stairs and read all the packaging. Products change ingredients, which change the way that they work, but the name remains the same. I will sum this up by saying that Frontline Plus works better than Frontline, and Advantage works as well as Frontline Plus. All Dog and Cat flea remedial products are good, but some are better than others. Please read the directions and use that product that you think is best for your circumstances and your pets health. The only thing that I ask is that you support your local veterinarian and pet shop. The money these people earn stays in the community. When you shop the Petsmart or Petco, the profits are drawn out of the community. The same goes for the large corporate run veterinary practices such as VCA.

boy howdy do I agree with this! Our vet has been caring for our pets for over 35 years, and we still trade with him and his younger partners.

I wasn't trying to win, Junk, just keep abreast in case maybe I missed something.
Hopefully the original poster is armed with some new insight and not too confused. Lots of ways to skin a cat.
(oops, is that politically correct in a pet topic?)

Fred...... would you like an autographed copy of my latest book ............ "How to wok a cat ..... 1000 different recipes". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I know that it isn't a contest and that there is/was no winning/loosing involved. Just a "figure of speech". Just this evening, the wife asked if I put Frontline on the dogs and gave them there heart-worm meds. I did give them the heart-worm meds, but told her that I didn't put the Frontline on the dogs because she didn't bring any home. She just gave me that "look" because all the excess inventory is stored at home. We don't have fleas and so far, the ticks haven't been a problem for our dogs. I don't like to use pesticides / insecticides until there is a reason. When the ticks start jumping on the dogs, then they will be treated, but until then, it will remain in the package. To me, this is the sensible way to treat your dogs.
