Pets

Ya gotta love it! Better than eating the wood furniture or the couch as one of my dogs has. Gerard

EDIT: That's a beautiful photo.

She was looking for a locksmith to help her break out of doggy jail.. Just wait till next month when she can jump over that gate like it wasn't even there.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

GregJ, what you need to do is get another lab. Seriously we had two labs years ago (they have both passed /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifnow) and they never chewed anything. We think since they kept each other company they never got bored. Plus you have the joy of two labs. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Srs,
I couldn't agree with you more.... In fact, we are one step ahead. We already had a Black Lab and a Golden Retriever. This is all my wife's fault. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I keep blaming it on some female mid life thing that she had to bring home a 3rd dog.

She has her dogs and I have my tractor, and I guess since I have my tractor..... I get to take care of her dogs. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (I think this is one of the few places a person can make that comment and people will understand).

Anyway, the labs play great together. Lab play is totally foreign to the Golden Retriever, so he feels left out a lot of the time. So, we are taking him on "special" trips with us, to help him feel special. In fact, I took him with me on an "important" trip to the dump last weekend and he came back feelin' pretty special.

Heres a picture of our little NUT squirrel hunting. He's not going to let the fact that dogs can't climb get in his way.

"Skipper" the Squirrel hunter.

I think that they are great.... I am partial to Weimeraners, having had them almost continually since 1970... As you can see, my girl likes her comfort and her rest.....

Ever since this thread started, I have been reading and taking in all the pictures and at the same time wanting to show off my own pets (and family members).

Here is Methos... my 8 month old black lab/border collie mix enjoying my oldest sons birthday party (turned 5 on Dec. 7th).

Here is another pic of Methos getting a nice treat that only took about 3 hours to be completely shredded.

Methos has an interesting story and led a rough first few weeks and had somewhat of a death wish to begin with. We saved him at the animal shelter at about 6 weeks of age and brought him home on a friday evening. He was fine saturday, but sunday started getting very lethargic. We brought him to the vet on monday to find out that he had parvo and from what the vet said, the worst case of worms she had ever seen. The parvo was bad, but she was actually more worried about his kidneys shutting down when he got dewormed. Well they gave us a very grim outlook, gave him all the necessary meds and told us that we could actually do more for him after that point than they could. So we went home and force fed and watered him for about 4 days. He pulled through but not for long. We had just recently moved into our new house and 5 acres and still had quite a bit of unpacked boxes in the garage. We had forgotten about rat poison that we put out a few weeks before we got Methos and he got into it. He pulled through that OK with the vets help again and is now just fine.

He seems to be having the occasional seizure. We have had him to the vet a couple of times trying to work it out, the vet has very diligantly eliminated all the usual causes and we are down now to mild epilepsy. The seizures are not long, maybe 15-20 seconds and don't seem to be getting longer. They are relatively infrequent, at 1 every other week or so and actually seem to be diminishing a little in frequency as he ages. He was actually at about every third day at one point. They start with dry heaves and progress through him falling down for about 5 seconds with some mild leg kicking, then he is up and off again.

He is a pleasure to be around and is extremely playful and intelligent. He has already enjoyed some squirrel hunting with me and enjoys training. I am so attached it isn't funny. He goes with me in the truck before the wife does.

All I will say is that I thought my pits had some energy. Border collies are crazy! My sister has one and the dog never ever gets tired. Also a GREAT dog for agility or CGC.

Josie, pure lab 4 years old, Francis, 12 years old, mother was pure bred black lab, father was suppose to be pure bred golden lab, obviously someone else got into the hen house.

Happy Holidays
Steve
