PHD for bx 2230

I am thinking of getting a PHD to use with my 2230. I've looked at some past threads on implements and for some of the woods models listed don't see them on their site -- maybe they are older and no longer sold new. The woods PHD25 seems like a good choice -- has anyone had bad experiences with this model?

I will be putting in a 3 board fence and also trees as a natural boundary. Any recommendations on an auger for doing both jobs, or is it better to get different augers?

Welcome to the forum. (If you fill out your profile, people closer to you and / or familiar with your style of ground can assist you better).

I have a Vassar PHD for my 2200. Works fine. I usually run it just above idle. I think the size of your auger would depend on your ground condition and what size posts you are putting in. Mine is 9" as I put in 4x4 posts. If I go to smaller, metal posts, a 6" would be nice............

As I've posted here previously, I don't like running the PHD--too hard to see what's going on as the unit is close to the tractor. AND, with the 3PH lever on one side and the PTO shutoff on the other, you almost have to be a circus performer to accomplish the turn, turn, turn, look, pull, turn, turn, pull maneauver.

What I've found works best for us is I have my son or wife stand to the right of the tractor, while I stand to the left. He/She operates the 3PH at my command and I handle the PTO. Each of us can see well and the rule is NO ONE GOES PAST THE REAR WHEEL while the PTO is engaged.

Ron, thanks for the advice. Which Vassar do you have; the Estate model? Any particular reason why you decided to go with Vassar over other brands?

I have the Woods PHD that works great in all soils exept really rocky plots. Just keep plenty of 4" x 5/16" regular grade shear pin screws in stock because you will snap them. They're easy enough to replace in about 2-3 minutes.
When you hear a large rock scraping immediatly raise the auger and get out a digging bar to dislodge it from the hole manually. Also setting the 3 point hitch lowering speed control to it very slowest drop helps save the shear pins. Since most of the smaller PHD's are made in China, price is what made my choice.

You might want to consider the Worksaver since a little birdie has mentioned that the PHD25 from the Woods Estate series is made by Worksaver.

I have a leinbach 7200jr for my bx. Just finished putting 85 holes in the ground for trees. I would recommend the unit. I can post some pics of it digging if needed.

Thanks SCB. If you have time to post a few that would be great. So far I really like the price of the leinbach. Not sure how quality compares to the woods models but they sure are a bit more pricey. I appreciate your recommendation.

Here you go. the first few pictures are of the PHD. the rest are progress pictures to share with my freinds. They do pertain to the BX though, as it shows the progress I have made using it.
