So everything on this site is stored in a cloud?

I do not know. You'd have to ask the owners.

And by "drive", that doesn't mean a single hard drive. Most "drives" nowadays are virtual drives that are really just a space that could be spanned across many actual physical hard drives.

When I first started playing around with Digital Equipment Corporation RAID arrays back about 25ish years ago, it was really amazing. We'd have 8 drives in an array. 1 was a hot spare, 1 was for parity data, and 6 made up usable storage space. In demos, we'd walk up to the array and yank a drive out! Just yank it out! And the system would keep running. It would bring the hot spare into play, and rebuild the missing data from the yanked drive onto the hot spare. At the time, it was almost unbelievable that you could yank a running drive from a system and it would keep running. Nowadays, its multiple arrays backing up multiple arrays, all made up of many multiple drives... its almost (almost) impossible to lose data unless it is intentionally deleted.
