Photo Comparison #2

Ok, the other person started one and it got me thinking. It's nice seeing all the different makes and models...how they operate, controls, etc. Please post some of your "where everything is" pictures /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It's interesting seeing how the different manufacturers place the controls, etc.

So here we go. This is our John Deere 4120. ePowerReverser (not eHydro).

View over hood from seat

Operator controls - left side
Here we have the 3 different ranges - A (super slow), B (working gearing) and C (road gears - up to 17 MPH). Also the 4WD selector (round knob near the seat - pull up). Also the gear selector (1 thru 4 plus neutral - 4 x 3 ranges = 12 speeds, forward or reverse). Also have the arking brake - Near the bottom. Yellow lever under seat a little is the seat adjustment. And you can barely see this one, but the black knob under the seat controls how fast the rear hitch drops.

Operator controls - right side
Hitch lowering next to the seat. Joystick for loader. You can't see the metal post you press on near the floor to lock the rear end when spinning the tires.

Operator controls - dash
Power reverser to the left (orange handle) - up is forward, center is neutral and down is reverse. You can have the tractor in 'gear' but the power reverser in neutral and it won't move if you let off the clutch. You can also get off the seat without killing the engine if reverser is in neutral. Switch above reverser is to scroll through engine montioring functions, etc. It displays on the LCD screen on the dash. The button with the left/right arrows is the turn signal. Round knob to right is for lights. Orange handle to right is throttle. Yellow knob almost hidden under orange knob on right is rear PTO on/off.

Still not so easy to work on with the loader in the way, but the loader is fairly easy to remove /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Front grill guard
Small spring loaded lever on left let's you swing down the guard to open the hood. Very nice.

R4 tires filling rear fender
17.5" wide R4's fill the entire fender well

And I guess that does it! Let's see your controls, etc...Come on Kubota, Kioti, Branson, JD, New Holland/Case...anyone...

Thanks. I didn't grow up around tractors (by I lived in a rural area). I'm just interested in seeing all the different models and how they do their thing. It bugs the heck out of me that a company as large as John Deere can't even put a descent picture of their products on the web. They do for the ATV's they sell, but not tractors. They've got a goofy almost thumbnail size picture of the 4x20 series and that's it! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

By the way, how do you work in that garage? It's like you have a place for EVERYTHING - and, like, you actually put stuff where it belongs! That's disgusting! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Chris, go back and look again, it is most likely a temporary misreading of the file. I got it on the left foot controls, went back, and it then showed the pic. This is not uncommon, and usually clears up by simply reclicking the link. John

Yeah I think it's a glitch with the site I use to host the photos. They've been known to mess up now and then.

And that's the father-in-law's garage. He's a little ****. I wouldn't have mine that way...for the most part. First of all, I'd have plain plywood on the walls...hehe...not stained and varnished wood!

Thanks for posting them, your photos need to be in their catalog as it is useless. We ordered a 4720 late in March and the dealer said it will be 30 days. I forgot what it looked like. Very few on lots and even less with loaders on them. Had the pleasure of test driving a 4720 and a 5525 at in plant in Augusta , Georgia. I too think my favorite part will be the turbo.

Here is my sweetheart of a machine. The controls are laid out beautifully so each can easily be seen. View over the hood is a little lacking straight one, but this tractor is tough to beat: View of dash & over the hood To the right of the seat is the 3pt control, it is within easy reach and your hand naturally falls onto it.

EDIT : on a more serious note, I just dug through my photo collection and I don't really have many comparable photos that I have not already posted in my photo gallery or in the prior thread that compared NH TC24s and Kubota B2910s from last fall. I think this is a natural extention of the other photo comparison thread. It would also be nice to see some photos of the rear of the tractors too.

EDIT #2 :: Another view I would like to see is a straight on view of the tractor & loader from the front. I've noticed that some brands have cross brace on the loader that is ABOVE the top lip of the bucket so that when the bucket is raised off the ground more than maybe a few inches the cross brace blocks the headlights. Other brands have a cross brace that is at or below the level of the upper lip of the bucket so the headlamps are not blocked as easily. It is a small difference, but one that makes a world of difference at NIGHT . . .
