Picasa2 picture software

Just wanted to pass on the information for those who are not aware of it. There is a program called "Picasa2" that is available for free at Picasa2

It is really a very good program. You can use it to crop, straighten, and do other basic modifications to photos such as lightening or darkening them. You can also make some simple web pages with the program. You can automatically resize the photos as you make the web page. The resizing shrinks the file size also, for instance a 400K file was shrunk to 70K and ths size was shrink from 1698X1128 pixels down to 640X425 pixels and still looks good on my monitor.

I heard about Picasa2 at a recent genelogical society meeting and have downloaded but not installed yet. If it does contain spyware then I don't want it on my computer.

If i want something bad enough, i just download then get rid of the spyware in it. No sense in not having a good program just because of a little spyware problem.

This is the first I have heard of any spyware in relation to Picasa2. I ran Ad-aware and nothing showed up and I can't find any other signs of spyware on my computer.

I got lucky a couple of years ago when Intuit Turbo Tax added their "malware" that was killing CD writers. I already had my copy but had not installed it. Send it back and change to TaxCut. Intuit will never see another dime of my money.

Unfortunately, some of the software that gets bundled ceases to work if you remove the money-making part of it (the spyware)

Bill .... Ad-Aware doesn't catch them all. I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot in tandem to catch most of the stuff ... and tested out the MS spyware beta ... it found 4 or 5 the other two had missed.
One major reason that I tend to download nothing or close to it from the 'net.
Even then ... I get nailed. I was searching fo rsome upgrade information on my legit copy of Pagemaker, and one site that I visited donated a grand total of 8 pieces of malware before I noticed the modem activity ....

It is good "free" software that I've been using for a couple of months. Norton doesn’t complain so I guess I'm good with it.
