What's that cylinder atop the feed chute?


I like my Woods Chipper/Shredder, but I sure wish I had the exhaust chute you have on that BX42. I know I can get one, but I can't justify the $$$ right now.

It is just a tube they provide to keep your owner's manual, maybe some tools if you want.

Yup got one this spring myself. Splendid unit! It works fast and causes me to work harder than I would like just to feed it with more twigs/branches/trees and logs... =) My neighbors say I'm just making big stuff into small stuff and having fun at it.:laughing:

I have a BX 42 that I have been running on my NAA. I'd recommend engine RPMs to be whatever you need to get 540 PTO rpms. It took me the longest time to figure out the instructions in the manual in terms of setting up the stationary knife. They recommend 1/32", mine came from the factory @ about 1/4" and seemed to work fine. Cutting dry dead material will definitely dull your knives faster. Just got mine sharpened for the first time and tooling guy told me that he had to remove a lot of material to get them back to sharp at the recommended 45 degrees. Dull knives definitely make your tractor work harder, particularly with the fine stuff. If you find you are having to throttle up to avoid clogs, it might be time to sharpen.

Yup. I keep wrenches in there of the size needed for the bolts that secure the folding feed chute and the one that holds the top of the cutting chamber down (that you need to open to unclog the unit...).
