Picking up equipment by a stranger

( I doubt there a lot of scammers that regularly read the forum with the thought that they might be able to scam someone on a piece of equipment. )
That sounds about what I thought happened also, but I wanted to make it clear that the poster didn't contact this person as most of the posts said they had done.

There had to be an assumption as it was not clear just how the offer came about on a "board." Was it this board, or another? etc.

There is a big difference between contacting someone to transport and item for you and someone contacting you because they saw you were going to have to go get it. More caution would be warranted.

I agree though, scammers are not "likely" to be operating this way, but one just never knows.

There is more to this story, and as Wayne mentioned, he knows more about it than most.
The rest of the story will be told in a couple of weeks, when the buyer and the transporter figure out if they have been scammed.
Thanks for your input, as I felt your replies might help, which they probably have.
Wish us all luck, that are involved with this, and keep an eye out for the rest of the story.
Oh, by the way, the auction for the west bound freight was derailed, as someone else hit the buy it now button. Just means that a trailer won't be in the picture.
Thanks guys,

I have a couple of horse trailers (large and LARGER).
I frequently take horses a thousand or more miles one way, and run an empty trailer in the other direction.
I advertise the empty space on a couple of Horsey bulletin boards and often get a back-load.

It hadn't occured to me that I could pack 5 or 6 thousand pounds of "non walk-on" freight in there.
Hmmm, maybe I'll post empty trailer space HERE in the future.

To THIS subject; Yes, it might be someone in a situation similar to my own.
I don't know how these freight free lancers find e-bay winners, probably not difficult.... maybe they hook up with the sellers and say, "Hey, let me know which way that is going when it sells".

Don't worry John, it will all come out in a couple of weeks. That part of the message you qouted was actually a message to another board member. He should understand if he reads this post.

I rather thought so, but I also thought maybe I missed that part in another post!

He was supposed to be here at 1PM on the pick-up day. He showed at 3:30 AM, with a death trap of a trailer, drastically over-loaded, and he had been drinking. (and NOT milk either) I loaded the item, and sent him on his way. In retrospect, I wish I'd called the cops.

Good Gawd......a.m.??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't know how you did it.

YEah, get the guys number and call him. Talking for a few minutes about various topics can give you an idea of who you are dealing with. Emails and internet can you can easily get the wrong impression, good and bad.

Thanks for the phone number sites. I used anyonewho to find one of the other parties in this three way deal. I don't expect to have any problems out of him. He seems to be a very nice person. Maybe the whole deal will come out like it is supposed to, and everyone will be happy.
More to come,
