Seems to mirror what I have been seeing...

One of my good friends was in the market for a standard cab f150 and no exaggeration... there were none to be found... he went with a extended cab.

The lots here are moving a lot of luxury and crew cab trucks... some accounting for half their sales.

Wait until gas gets back to $3.00 per gallon then you will see many new/used trucks for sale at a great price..

From what I read in the financial press, after souring loans to the energy industry, the biggest threat to banks are vehicle loans made to sub-prime borrowers.

I have a nephew who has a worked as a stocker for Walmart eleven years, who was able to qualify for a $60,000 dealer loan to buy a large, "loaded" pickup truck. If he has any kind of a financial emergency during the loan, he will likely default. I do not know the term of his loan but I presume six or seven years. He will be "upside down" during most of his payment period. Fuel expense will be high.

Truck pricing today is an excellent example of supply and demand, functioning to the advantage of truck producers at this time.

The married receptionist at work had everyone admiring her 52k SUV... she mades $12 and hour full time... her husband has a year old Diesel Truck that cost about the same and she was not going to be stuck with her 12 year old car while he had the good car.

She said she wanted to enjoy the fruit of her labor... and was tired of driving a Hoopty...

If things go South I expect that car will be repossessed or have a mysterious fire... like so many did when gas spiked and SUV and Truck owners owed way more than the vehicles were worth.

Credit Union just loaned 60k at 1.9% for 60 months... Credit Union pays .85 on deposits...

They were selling then too.

SUVs have been luxory for a long time, trucks too. 20 years? When I bought a truck in 99, I could only find one plain truck.

Now WTs are pretty fancy. Cloth seats, cruise, AC.

I am waiting for that. My truck is 26 years old. It does a great job, but in the next five years I'm gonna look for something with an extended cab and 4wd, both of which I'm currently lacking.

I'm figuring that once gas goes back up, I'll be able to buy a 3/4 or 1 ton gasser on the cheap.

Yea but it will be tough to find a 8' bed. They don't seem to make those anymore.

10,000 miles divided by 17 is 588 gallons. so $500-1000 if gas spikes. I drive 30-40k a year, but many people drive a lot less. Obviously it depends what kind of job you have, but spread over the year, I can survive.

If you buy a $60,000 vehicle on credit, after six years/210,000 miles your resale will be $10,000, maybe. So depreciation is $50,000 or $8,333 per year PLUS your interest cost.

Survival is one issue. Working until you die, because you cannot afford to retire, is another.

Manual Transmissions, Standard Cab and 8' Beds are just about history in trucks... not even sure if manuals are available period?

Seems 4WD is the must have when opting on new...

Diesel Sales are down per the local Dealer... they simply don't carry much.

I guess the emission equipment and DEF have had a part in that... although 440 HP on a superduty is impressive.

About half the trucks I did see, F150 and F250 have sunroofs... who would have thought that... they would have called you nuts a generation back.

I could be wrong... but I bet even if you could find a standard cab work truck it will have Auto, A/C and Power Steering... maybe not a radio because I just saw when that did not have a radio...
