Pickups the new Luxury Car?

For me it certainly is, my wife and I debated for a long time one what to buy before we bought our duramax and it was the only vehicle that fit all our requirements in one package. It's four door to allow hauling children when that comes, gets good mileage, allows me to move my Kubota and many other pieces of equipment. And the duramax allison combo is proven beyond a doubt.

All that said we only have one vehicle loan and it'll stay that way. The wife drives it to work 15 mins each way and I drive a beater Saturn Vue I paid 600$ for but mostly carpool to work.

I bought it used with 70k on it and I'm at 82ish now I think. We made a trip to Arkansas this January and racked up some miles.

Ultra- Unless it has changed in the last year or two, Dodge still offers a manual in their more basic 3/4 and up trims. But yes i agree that it is too bad that manual are disappearing.

Yes they still offer the manual transmission but only with the diesel. The 4500 and up the manual is rated to tow and haul more than the auto. It hasn't been that way for a while and it's nice to see that again. I would have loved to have got a manual in my last new truck but DEF will keep me from buying any more diesels until the come up with a better solution.

Yea but it will be tough to find a 8' bed. They don't seem to make those anymore.
Murphy, finding a truck with a 6.5 ft bed is a chore unless you order one. When I was looking at 2016 ford F150 to purchase the 5.5 ft bed was the norm.

Another reason we ordered... 95% were the short bed...

Ordered the 6.5 bed and had it prepped for Gooseneck and 5th Wheel.

I have always had "nice" trucks. The cost difference between a stripped one and a loaded one, is insignificant enough for me to not even concider buying something I don't like. .. If I'm driving it everyday and paying for it, I **** well am going to enjoy the ride.

It does seem to be about double for loaded vs basic... or able 30k more from the XL to King Ranch/Limited/Platinum

There was a time when the work truck option was a real loss leader... often the least expensive vehicle was a plain white pickup.

I'm glad that we build something that Americans want and that is profitable... the truck lines employ a lot of Americans, especially at Ford.

If you buy a $60,000 vehicle on credit, after six years/210,000 miles your resale will be $10,000, maybe. So depreciation is $50,000 or $8,333 per year PLUS your interest cost.

Survival is one issue. Working until you die, because you cannot afford to retire, is another.

What does that have to do with MPG??? I am pretty sure you can buy $$$$$ that get good mileage.

My truck was sitting on the lot for a year, MSRP 38k, only thing it didn't have was leather seats and heate seats, got it for 27k. I know Dave Ramesy wouldn't approve, but I felt OK.
