Sysop -- neat to see your pre-Civil War barn. I'm sure a lot of the outer layers are more recent but the log-and-pin part is amazing and historic. Our family (near Lost Creek, maybe 20 miles south of you) had one of those old log barns but it was allowed to deteriorate in the 1950's. I recall seeing it and how it was made. The number left standing in WV is going down fast.

I have a lot of exterior work and some structure work to do to the lower-end lean-to, but overall it's still in pretty good shape.

This was a pretty interesting barn that was on a sheep farm I hunted on in South Africa. The walls are solid, cut rock that was built almost a hundred years ago. The inside is a mess, the roof leaks real bad, and the trusses look to be about rotted out. But the walls are perfect!!!!!!

Exactly the reason I plan to preserve ours as best I can... I'm thankful the roof was replaced by the former owner, and is in good shape.
