My Barn.

DSCF0831.JPG

Used to be used as a tobacco barn, before that it was something else. The interior structural parts are old hand hewn wood, and obviously have been recycled from a previous structure. This barn has the front and left side clad in poplar planks, while the right side and rear are covered in various types of tin and aluminum. We added electric, doors, a loft for hay, and stalls for the animals.

My northside barn, writing inside it on the walls are dated 1892 but it may be older, the farm I live on was a working dairy farm in the 1920's thru 1950's, its a 24X36 2 story and is almost all oak. The picture of the interior construction...the support posts are 7 inch square oak, the horizontal beams are 8 inch square oak, and the floor joists are an actuasl 2 inch by 8 inch oak. Originally it had a pair of sliding doors on the end, I widened the opening to 9 feet and put in an 9 foot overhead door. The other end I opened up and installed an 8 foot overhead door. The center floor joists were sagging very badly and rotted out at both sills so I had to fix those too. This fall I want to reroof and install steel siding.

This one of mine is a conventional gambrel roof dairy barn built about 1940, they added the smaller structure (used to be a milk house) a year or two later. I closed it up and converted it to a garden shed/workshop. The bigger barn is about 30 by 45 feet. Three of the pics show the workbenches I added inside of the garden shed.

I grew up in this area and this was a place we went all the time.

This barn was originally built in 1889 burnt in 2002 and they were planning to rebuild but I haven't been down to see if it has.

it is octagon shaped very unusual.

First three are a previous barn my wife and I owned. Barn is 120x 40 with a 16 foot open shed making it 120x56. Fourteen stalls, office, tack room, grain room, bathroom, double wash bay. Last one is our current barn. Eighty wide by 60 deep. A little less elaborate but it serves the purpose.
