A guy I know in Quebec has a barn (really was a barn) on a large farm he acquired. He is not wealthy at all but incredibly innovative. He has hobbies -- like flying airplanes he builds himself and square dancing. Thus he has a small airstrip adjacent to his "barn." The barn now drastically remodeled by himself houses the aircraft in the lower level and this square dance club floor in the second level.

By the way, he also runs a sawmill driven by the PTO on an ancient tractor of some kind. Cuts and mills the lumber for these projects himself.

Yes, he makes a living with those cattle...

How does he make a living with those cattle? there are only about 15 head there.

A historic barn, ceramic tile build out, was recently turned into a brewery complex in my area. The barn will serve as a restaurant and event planning area. Renovation costs are in the millions.

Creamer: I did not claim to have photographed all of his cattle. [the guy in Quebec, Post #300] Have no clue the size of his herd. Having met with him and his wife and been given a tour of the place through deep snow by him on an ATV I am impressed by his innovations, his make do with nothing ability and attitude, and what he has done. There is no apparent means of income besides his farming operation. As I recall his wife raises and sells some breed of dogs for extra income.

As far as being "not wealthy" I heard it said that if all the money you had was what was the change lying on your dresser, you would be in the top (very small percent" of the richest people in the world.

I often think of something I saw Warren Buffit (sp) say.

"If you took all the money in the World and divided it equally among all the people in the World, in five years I would be rich and you wouldn't".

He's totally talking about me......

Canadians have a far different economy. The dairy biz has quotas and limits on size and how you market you production. You don't need to be a corporate mega producer to make a decent living there.

We have very similar dairy farm restrictions here
Have had for 40 years or so.
