I live near a college town and they have an Ag program. This barn is on their farm located on the edge of town. It’s kept in nice condition.

A few years ago they built a bypass around town. They graded 4 lanes but only paved 2 of them. This new bypass is just to the left of my picture. Tgere is nothing around this little barn. Maybe there was an old farmhouse that got torn down with the new highway.

Was driving down a county road in my area and noticed someone had dismantled a barn, and the lumber was stacked up, apparently for shipment and reconstruction, I hope.
Found a picture of the barn on Google Street View.

What do people do for missing silo caps/hoods/domes?

I just took a forty foot (plus) tree out of ours. It was visible via google earth a while back it was so big. LOL.

Now I'd like to make use of it rather than a home for an Owl box. More LOL.

Growing up in rural Oklahoma in the 50's, that wasn't unusual at all. I also saw a lot of hoops on the front of the barn, provided the barn was near the house. In those days, basketball was the most attended sport, especially in rural areas where facilities were at a premium and student attendance was low (we had about 75 in our whole high school).
About the same in good ole Stoutland MO. in the 70-80's. K-12 were on the same campus of 2 buildings, 3 if you count the cafeteria. My graduating class was one of the largest then, we had 40. Most had 20-30.
8 buses covered all the routes and all grades K-12, only one bus ran a route, once before school and once after. Didn't matter if you were in K or a senior you got on the same bus. Don't think it's changed much over the years.

This barn looked in great condition as I rode up towards it, nice bright red siding but once I got close I saw it needed some help with the roof.

I’m in Western Illinois, roughly a 40 minute drive straight east of the Iowa -Missouri border. We didn’t get to partake in the derecho. There are some very flat areas with nothing to block the winds and this barn pictured above is in the wide open.

All it takes is enough time and a couple of loose fasteners for a strong wind to peel back a metal panel barn roof like that.
