I planted 3 acres of corn for the deer on May 15. It was getting real dry here, and I was getting a little worried about it. Luckily we got a good rain last weekend and they're calling for another good one tomorrow and Saturday. It's looking real good now and should supply a good feast for the critters this fall.

How are the Raccoons down there? I planted about an acre last year and I thought someone came and stole it. Then I saw all the cobs on the ground. They wait till its ripe and then they must all fight over it. Deer and Coons......

Yeah the coons will get their share too. I hope all the critters appreciate all the time and money I spend on them just so they can eat good.

Put out a bowl of water. If there are cobs all around it, it's coons washing their food before they eat it. If no cobs around the water, it's probably the deer.:)

Around here you know you are doing good if the corn is "horse high by the 4th of July" look's like you may make it.

Here in Ohio you're doing well if it's knee high by the 4th of July.

Very nice stand of corn, I'm sure the critters will appreciate it.

I planted a little later than most real farmers. I want it to mature later, more to coincide with deer season, so I'm not too concerned if it's horse high by July 4. Lots of corn that was planted early to mid April around here is already tasseled out (and horse high).
