This is a thread I posted way back when /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif about the homemade tractor my grandfather made. I'll post it if you wanna take a look.

Homemade tractor

Some things about that thread, though. I posted that when I was still quite "newbieish", if there is such a word /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have since learned that the "other John Deere tractor" is a Deere L. That "11H" is just a plain old H. The Oliver dozer is a crawler tractor that he crafted a big dozer blade for the front of. It is very heavy duty. You have to crank the blade up. If you release the crank and let the blade down fast, the crank WILL break your hand/arm. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif When I said I would let my great-nephew ride on it, I will NOT let him ride on it. It is WAY to dangerous. My grandfather made that for his uses a very long time ago and never thought that some little kid would be given a ride on it. It works great, but not for rides. I can't believe I even suggested that. *bangs head against wall* /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for the post and the picture. I really admire people who can do things like that. Unfortnately, I am the king of Rube Goldberg contraptions. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks. It really is something to ride. Truth be told, the first time I drove it, I was a little nervous. It is a good tractor, but it has no brakes. The only way to stop is to press the clutch in and roll to a stop. You can roll quite a ways if in high gear! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I guess you could also lower the rear harrows in an emergency... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif But that thing is like a tank - very solid. I wish I could have asked him while he was still alive is how did he come down the steep hill to one of his gardens. I'm not sure how steep the hill is, but I wouldn't want to go up and down it on a graden tractor let alone one with no brakes! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Up until he died, he was still using it on all three of his gardens.

Wow! Now I'm really jealous of you! I want that 46 hoe! Nice rig!

Just out of curiosity, how much does that 46 hoe cost with all the hardware required to attach it to the 4110?

The 46 lists at $5,600 + you need power beyond which is another $220 list and the tall folding ROPS hoop, I don't remember how much that is. Depends on your dealer what that will actually cost. It takes a lot of hours to assemble it and install it too. As part of the package I got some off that, but some dealers added $500 for assembly and installation. I'm sure it varies around the country.

I've spent about four hours with it so far, and I am quite pleased. It's a lot of money, but it's what I needed (and wanted). I haven't used the tractor for anything else yet. Just Backhoe work. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
