Kiohio:

There is more to it than just ROPS, There is an agreement between Yanmar and John Deere and it was to keep Yanmar from being the competition and in return John Deere would purches from them "x" about of motor's, trannys and complete tractors (790 & 990) for sell here in the USA.

Now, I may not have the complete story quite right but I'm close. My understanding is that the agreement is almost over and I'm waiting to see what is going to happen....will we see Yanmar back in the USA market again...some of us can only wait and hope!

Kiohio,

Maybe because these ROPS are not US or EEC approved.
I got mine (AF22) without ROPS because my french dealer asked Japanese broker to remove them. It's a question of responsibility. By the way I am sure Japanese ROPS are as resistant and tough as US or European ones but....not approved in our respective countries !

Ernie,

The point you mentioned is very interesting. I don't know how it works in the US but in Europe there is gray AND official market for Yanmars. The official market is subdivided in two : Yanmar industrial engines (nederlands based, analog of "Yanmar of America") and the tractors (imported by another firm related to HAKO-Germany). It means that even if Yanmar of America does'nt want to import tractors, maybe another firm can do it, of course with the acceptation of Yanmar Japan.

But maybe this situation is not possible in the States because of special agreements between companies (Deere and others)

I would suspect that yanmar is making preparation to re-enter the US/North American market. Surely not having a ROPS etc. was not what was keeping them out of the market. A non-compete clause with JD was probably the issue and who knows how long that will run.

hey, do you think if they re-enter the us market all of us with grays will be, like, underdogs, and henceforth rewarded and regarded highly?
Personally, I'd like one of those AF models... cool. Thanks for posting the pix, EuroYanmar

Arthr31,

One more remark :

1) These AF models ARE (the latest released) gray market tractors in Europe ! so I think you will have them soon in the US as gray market imports as a subtitution for FX** and FX*** series.

2) They are not the latest models from Yanmar. AF is about 10 years old. The newest are models EF200, EF 220 etc..
