Sounds like a great time and a good deal considering it wasnt used hardly at all. There was one on ebay but it was installed but never used and it was $8400. I called the guy and he was a broker dealer selling for the owner. I made an offer but he refused. It was kinda funny as he was selling more than the cost for brand new..
It was memorable. Middle Michigan to Denver and back in a weekend. HORRIBLE mileage in my old Chevy 350...

Used prices are sometimes nuts. I bought a new car because a used one was only $2k cheaper.

You'll like the blower though. Very easy to use. You may want tire chains though... Mine are v-bar ladders and we're $700....

I almost bought a set last winter but they were out of the chains for the fronts and I was concerned about clearance with my cab. I then ran across a blog where someone grooved their tires. I posted on orangetractortalks Does tire grooving really work?
Best improvement I ever made!

Grooving r4s definitely improves winter traction. I have yet to groove my fronts though.

I had to swap tire sides to widen the stance for clearance.

I think grooving would work well for a short time, while the edges are "sharp" and that a small amount of wear would negate it. IMO only. I also know it depends on terrain. For me, it wouldn't be enough. I'd end up with chains anyway.

Can try. It's cheaper than chains!

My location is hilly and in the middle of the snow belt. R4s wear forever. Most dealers here sell large lug turf but I did not have that option. I think the grooving acts like suction cups. I believe this because of the traction on ice. Before grooving I could not push snow downhill into the woods because I could not backup up hill. After grooving it was a different animal. R4s act like slicks in snow 30-40s degrees. Grooving cured that issue. The only downside is in summer as the grooves hold sand and mud so I sweep the barn floor more. If I am up to it I use back pack blower to blow out the barn :)
If wear becomes an issue I will just regroove again. Lots of rubber there.

Post pics will ya? I’m going to go this winter without grooving my R4’s but I live in snow belt so I’ll probably groove next year in warmer weather. I plow on concrete and asphalt.

Here ya go. Dont wait, do it now. I did mine during winter in the barn. I am sure it would be easier in hot weather but I managed.
