I think in other areas that people might not realize the problem we have with wild dogs here. It is a serious problem. I have huge bears on my property and I would rather run into one of those guys than a pack of wild dogs. In the winter they will run the deer out onto the ice. It is not a pleasant sight. Its easy to forget that not every one lives here or is aware of our problems. Sorry for the digression or if any one who did not understand because I was not clear was offended. Dave

Where's the picture Doc?

Last year we had a fawn at our feeder for a little less than a week that had one whole side of its skin peeled off. It looked really aweful, but I couldn't get near it to put the poor thing out of its misery. Found it dead a week after. Don't know what caused the injury, it could have been a fence, dogs, or coyotes, as we have plenty of all three around here.

I down loaded some new Kodak software for my camera yesterday. Dog goned up dates ! I have to keep trying to figure out how to use it. It changes each time /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I am trying to reconfigure the photos. Dave

Have you thought about using cow bells on your animals? This gives huinters an opportunity to hear as well as see your animals. While there may be nothing you can do to prevent hunters on nearby property, you can let them know there are domestic animals nearby.

I think most hunters who had to listen to the bells for awhile would probably move farther away from the noise.

Wind chimes might also help.

Well I can not get my soft ware to work. It loks like I have to delete every thing out and reload. argggh. I had a good photo of a sickly doe that looked like she had been bitten. Her leg was so swollen you could see the bite mark. I doubt she has lived the last two days. Which might also be the life expectancy of this "updated" Kodak software /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Dave

Reminded me of a story. Wife's family were avid hunters when they were younger. Uncle is hunting rabbits and shoots too quick when ones barrelling out from behind a tree because his dog was so close behind that he gets the dog. Later when he wants to go hunting he wants to borrow father-in-law's dog. fil lets him take it but identifies dog with livestock paint marker without uncle noticing. Out in bush dog is in distance a bit and uncle looks at it and reads D....O...G . painted in big letters on side of dog.

Good Story!

I have never heard a story of a hunter that shot anything by mistake that sounded like a bell coming thru the woods.

While I haven't tried this, and I also used to be an avid hunter, I think it may be a simple solution to a potential problem.

I know when I am in the woods I like it quiet! If there is noise around, I'll move to another area.

Personally I never have understood anyone shooting something other than what you are hunting. There is no excuse other than possibly a richochet or accidental gun discharge from dropping etc. I may take some heat on this statement, but so be it.

I was always taught if you aren't 100% certain what you are shooting at, then don't shoot.
