I was trying to attach the backhoe after dark with a flashlight (dumb move #1) and ended up pinching the lines between the frames. Unfortunately, when this happens, the backhoe can no longer be moved and so it is impossible to UNpinch the lines. I tried to move the tractor around a bit to jiggle it loose, but failed.

what is the best way to ensure this never happens again, other than to do it in daylight (doh)? Any suggestions on how to fix the current problem of a jammed backhoe?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do what you've done even in the daylight, given enough time /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Kinda hard to visualize where it's pinched but a pry bar or a jack come to mind first ...

What you might try is back up against something ,put your set pins in the release position, then drive ahead a little so the hoe will lean back and you can free your hose.Or if you cant run the tractor, drive something up to the hoe.anything to let it down slow.If your feet are down jack up the tractor itself to get them off the ground BE CAREFULL DONT MAKE A BAD SITUATION WORSE.
This is my biggest fear installing the hoe or fel.you cant rush you coulg pinch something worse then a hose, such as a hand.
I hate where these hoses are anyway, its hard to get the dipstick out of the tranny.

Don't worry.. as soon as he gets out of rehab I'm sure he will post back /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Seriously though.. I hope he made out ok... would also like to see how he made out.. and if the hoses survived..

Too see better at night, add one or two lights on the ROPS. This way you can leave the flashlight in the house. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Cornfucious say, never mess with a hoe that pinches the hose.

Cornfucious say, never mess with a hoe that pinches the hose. LOL!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Later shortened to "Don't mess with 'hoe', especially at night!" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good Luck,

Smile, it could always be worse.
If the prybar or johnson bar fails then my humble suggestion is to gather the following...
some stout line
a come-a-long
some blocks
maybe a length of chain
a tree or yard pole
a bottle jack (or similar)
a blazing sun
new hoses to replace the pinched ones
some hyd fluid (maybe)
AND A HELPER.
oh yeah, and I forgot to list some adult beverages and a digital camera.
You should be able to figure out what this is all for.

All the best,
Martin

Hey guys, sorry not to post on how things worked out.

Lights on the ROPS are now a definite need to have item for me. However, I will never again attempt to do this in anything but daytime. The danger inherent to this backhoe is significant: you are standing to one side of it, pushing and pulling levers while the engine is quite loud. It requires ones full attention, something I was not able to do given my inability to see properly.

Anyway, the solution was I called the dealer and they showed up the next day, replaced the damaged hose, and that was that. I wan't even there at the time so I can't tell you how they moved the attachment. The tractor was sitting behind the garage, no trees or poles nearby to attach a chain or line, and the backhoe was firmly in place on the ground.

I guess you have to learn from your mistakes, and I am just glad I learned this lesson without any injury to me, just a bent hose.

Thanks for the advice guys.
