I somehow lost one of my four pins that hold the MMM up on my TC21. The first place I went being a Sunday was TSC. They didn't have anything that would work. I couldn't believe it. Since I had to go to my local hardware store anyway, I thought I'd check there. They had what I wanted. Only one problem, the pin has about 8 holes for different length uses. Will this make the pin weaker? It's a bit longer then the original, but the same diameter. Thanks for any input.

Kent,

From my memory which pretty much stinks at my age but the pins for the 21 were a pretty good size. Having the holes in them for longer lengths should not hurt at all. I am assuming you have 60" MMM and I don't think it is too heavy for them pins at all.

Thanks Murph,

Yep, it's a 60" MMM. I just found it odd that a small hardware store had them, and not TSC. Also they are 3/4" pins. Thanks again for the reply.

Mine fell out twice this weekend. The planets must be aligned wrong. Lucky for me I saw it as I made the next pass. Did lose the washer & am running out of places to scavange the bobby pins from /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

No worries regarding the extra holes in the pin. It is way bigger than it needs to be to hold up 1/4 of 400#.

Thanks Hazmat,

I'm not sure about location, but I bet I'll walk onto it somewhere in the yard. Just makes you take a break from mowing while you go get one. I bought an extra one this time, and about 6 cotter pins. Thanks for the reply.

If I had a dime for every pin or clip I've lost.......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I guess my question is why is everyone loosing their clips, which eventually you end up loosing your pin?

I did loose mine once on my TC21D but have never lost any on my TC29D.

I guess that is just a question for maybe one of the New Holland Mechanics to answer. You should not loose them. Gee eventually if you loose enough of them you will be hitting them with your mower the next time around.

Three years ago, when I first put into service the 60" MMM on my 21D, the first thing I had happen was one of the mower mount pins fell out - the the right front I believe. Lost the pivot pin, washer and "hair pin" retainer.

Went down to my NH dealer, bought a new pin and washer, along with two standard cotter pins. I replaced the front pivot hair pins with standard cotter pins (left the original hair pins in the rear pivots) and haven't lost one since.

In my case, I believe the hair pin was getting snagged by brush or something similar and was simply pulled out. Eventually the pin vibrated out and was lost. I'm always off in the choppin's with my tractor so it'd be easy to see how this could happen in my case.
