I'm considering buying a 72" tooth bar for my 3830 Kubota. How do you think it will hold up on a larger tractor?

It's one of these or a HR Long bar.

Hey Papa... I have a PTB on my BX with 100+ hours now and most of the hours are FEL work in glacial till. The teeth are near new looking. I have been banging it into the hillside for terracing and I have to say... I am impressed. Best mod I have made to my tractor, no question. I can understand that some with much power under their seat, might prefer some heavier and bigger spaced out teeth on their bucket, but for my use...

Thanks for the feedback dragon! That's an impressive project you are working on!

It appears the PTB would slice easier into dirt than a standard tooth bar. I'm not working in much rock. Also it looks like it would peel up sod with ease! Similar to a serrated knife.

PapaPerk,

Don't forget to keep us updated on the Piranha tooth bar. I'm also considering buying a 72" tooth bar for my jd 110 tlb. The price they gave me on a 72'' Piranha tooth bar few weeks ago was $339. plus $46.01. for Shipping

Once you get it on just fine.

Took me about 3 days to find an elegant cheap solution for drilling my bucket (real thick) and 30 minutes for drilling SLOWLY.

Goes off and on my M4700 EASY. Be wary of the edge - it seems to stay sharp.

I too wondered the same when considering the Piranha on a larger tractor and bucket. I have one on a 66" bucket on my L3800. I only have about 15 hours of usage on it. Mainly clearing the undergrowth and small trees in my woods. It has preformed quite well in this application. As for digging, created with ease a pit (8'LX8W'X4'D) for a dry well. The tooth bar fit perfectly and for home use is heavy duty in my opinion.

Just curious - where did you get that drilling fixture and what did it set you back?

THANKS!

Thanks Papa... I didn't want to derail thread with more project pictures, but I have already installed a couple of huge retaining walls requiring a lot of backfill with gravel and displaced dirt/rocks. If you are digging in dirt with lots of rocks up to cantaloupe size, you will love it. And yep it scrapes sod extremely well. I like to grade in reverse with the PTB too, especially when I don't have a blade on the rear.

Thanks for all the info. I may order a PTB this spring... My 3830 needs the front axle bearing first... So farm funds will need to recover before buying the tooth bar.

I got it at some big box store about 30 years ago and I'm pretty sure it was $20. Rockler sells a fancier model. My "3 days" was to try and think on a better method until I did a Homer Simpson "DOH" and grabbed the drill guide I'd bought for making a shelf system.

My primary problem was that the drill bit would "skitter" around even when I "dimpled"" prior to drilling. Another "problem" was keeping oil on the drill bit as I drilled. I used chainsaw chain oil. It's tacky and seemed to help. Remember unless you take the bucket off or turn the tractor on it's side it's hard to keep a pool of oil in the hole.

I was getting recommendations to take the bucket to a welder, rent a mag drill, etc.
