Hello, I too have been looking at plasma TVs. I have not bought not because of the price but because I think that by about Christmas the prices will fall some more. I am also waiting on the next generation.
Why Plasma--bright colorfull picture. Excellent color range. They can hang on walls etc which can be a big deal for some folks--less for others.
Downside, they have a life limit of approximately 25,000 hours--current technology. The plasma gas in the "plasma cells" slowly cooks off. Brightness etc then drops off.
If you get a plasma TV it should not be used for general TV but only for movies and important thing you want to see like ball games etc. The LCD flat screens are not Plasma and they do not have a life limit. Sharp and some other companies are making these. The images have slower reponse than plasma thus you notice larger plasmas and smaller LCDs. The LCDs are getting bigger and cheaper as well. I recently saw in Wal Mart a plasma EDTV for 1500 dollars, 42 inch.
I dont like the projection TVs because they are huge and have limited viewing angle and plastic screens and all of them appear to be "cheap" built of partical board. I am sure there are exceptions but plasma and LCD and similar flat screen technology is the future of TV.
Since many of us no longer watch broadcast PC correct, left wing, network television and get all of our news from internet and FOX and weather from the WC and etc and only watch movies and sports and notable events on say the History Channels etc a plasma would do just fine. Just because you have a plasma does not mean you cannot have a 27 inch CRC TV for watching Dan Rather make a donkey rear of himself. J
