I was talking to my step son yesterday.. & he said "after THIS BABY is born, I'm dropping my health insurance"..{2nd kid in 2 years}
His company merged w/ another & his "family coverage" jumped from 90.00 a/week to 260.00 a/week.. after the first of the year..
His co. is giving him a 1 time ins. "help" payment of 3000.00.. and his boss is giving him an extra 65.00a/week nontaxable to help out..
We had a long talk about it but u know these 29 yr olds.. all he could see was the $$.. & he couldn't get past the> "I haven't been to the Dr. all year OR last year".. "what the H am I paying all this money for"??
I left the conversation at THAT.. because I could talk till I'm blue in the face & it wouldnta made any difference..

Maybe you can lead him to this thread to read. Perhaps the third party influence will be greater than a family member.

Biggest thing that most younger folks never get a grasp of is.....they can be as healthy as the proverbial horse, but one thing can just up instantaneously and they become uninsurable, or the only insurance they can purchase (afford) has an extremely high deductible, and now they have MORE health expense with less coverage if any.

Is he sure it's $260 per week and not $260 per pay period?

Some day all the free social programs will cause our standard of living and economy to collapse. Take the problem with socialism is that eventually we spend the wealth of the working man. Remember a few years back when they started building big apartment complexes to provide housing for the indigent and those on welfare. The tenants had no skin in the game. Soon they become roach, bed bug, rat, drug infested and had to be abandoned and nice buildings sit idle and had to be demolished. In our area the emergency squad has started billing for any emergency runs. So if you are self employed and get a injury, you are going to bet a bill, Yet they will make three or four runs a week to a crack house free. The Good Book (not political correct to mention Bible) tells us to take care of the sick and help the poor but it also says "he who does not work does not eat" We are breeding a whole generation of dysfunctional people that have been taught that someone else will take care of them. Many have never heard the story of the "little Red Hen" or about what the Good Book says about the ant. What is happening in France will come to America some day. I remember years ago when I was a kid and I was walking down a road, hungry, I seen a apple tree with its branches extending over the fence. I took a apple. Dad said "what makes you think you have a right to do that" Some farmer labored to plant the tree, fertilize it, prune it and care for it so it will provide a income and care for his family and you think you have a right to just walk by and pick off the apples. If you want a apple, go ask the farmer if there are some chores you can do to get a apple. I have never forgot that lesson.

Eeep! Some day, is it? Hope we are not running out of time here in Canuck land - we have had Medicare since 1962.

Yes, the consept that the society takes care of the sick and educates it's children and young adults is hard to understand. It has nothing to do with socialism or what people that don't understand good investments calls it.

A healthy and educated population is good capitalism from the viewpoint of the society, you invest and get a good return on the mony spent.

Or you can save money on helping people and then use fortunes on crime controll, prison, and clear up the mess after crime and slum.

And before anyone paint me bright red, I'm a member of the conservative party and very much on the right side of it.

The information on Legal Immigration to Norway is interesting:

>>>>Contrary to popular belief, having a distant Norwegian relative does not entitle you to Norwegian residence. Very few countries in the world operate such a system.

Norway does operate a family immigration program, but it is intended for someone with the right to live in Norway (for example through a work permit) to bring their partner and children to live with them.

If you have a Norwegian parent, you can also apply through the family immigration system, but the parent must have an income of at least NOK 260,744 per year pre-tax.<<<<<

Well, we don't want people go abroad find a wife or husband and then not be able to supplie for them and we end up that the whole adventure is paid by the taxpayer.

And the same with children it seems.

Sounds like you don't want caravans of migrants either. Good for you.
