I can not see the rear tractor wheels, can you change the inside dish of the wheels to get them wider and also set the planter in.

No, they are already set that way.... probably from a PO as this tractor came with a backhoe and the wider the better ;)

Thanks for all the input guys, I think I am going to give it a go next year as-is and see what happens.

On a side note, has anyone planted the 'Shrunken' sweet corns with one of these? If so what plate did you use?

Well I have a manual for my JD that recomends plates ... there is a seller on ebay that can cross reference your planter and match plates for what you want. Just search planter plates.

Yeah I've got the "Service Shop" copy of the Operators Manual and it has 4 little charts on selecting seed plates... is that what your manual has?

Guess I will have to measure the seed and see if it's 'Small, Medium or Large' ;)

A lot of the seed sacks have the seed size posted on it and the plate they recomend for that paticular seed size. Sometimes you can substitute a plate like a B8 for a B7 but you don't want to get to carried away with that.

If you can't find some corn and bean bottoms, give me a call.

I don't have the name right now, but there's a outfit in Nebraska that own the JD71 design. They have a manual you can print off right on line. I called them and they're a knowegable bunch on the 71 flex planter. I asked them about a seed tube for the 70 and they didn't know what I was talking about and said talk to JD. I've got 2 71's and 2 70's and don't have seed tubes don't know if I need them or not. I planted a couple acres of sweet corn last year and it came up ok. I'm doin' 30" rows on 6" spacing between seeds. Also a plate maker somewhere in Nebraska that sells plate pretty resonalbe. I don't recall names at the moment, guess I'm havin' a Senior Moment. bjr

Yetter has the 71 design and you can download an owners manual from their web sight. Lincoln Ag has plates.
