OK, here is an update on the corn. It has been an uphill battle. As has been well documented on the Weather Channel, we have been in a terrible drought.
Here is a picture made on 25 May. At this point I had basically given up. I had applied about 30 units of N per acre. This is about half as much N as I would normally apply to dryland corn. I planted for a drought and for food plots. In other words, I do not have a real good stand, but that is on purpose. If I make 25 bushels of grain per acre, I will have had a great success. I had also sprayed with Roundup. I should have sprayed earlier, but with the lack of rain, I was afraid the Roundup wouldn't work well. Anyhow, here is the picture from 25 May
About three weeks ago, a few days after this picture, we started getting a little rain. Not much; a quarter inch here, three tenths there, and a half inch or a little more about ten days ago. The corn responded. This picture was made Monday morning.(6-18)
As you can see, the corn isn't as tall as it should be, it isn't as green as it should be, but there are some ears on it.
This afternoon, we got an inch of rain. That should insure that some of those ears have at least some grain on them. There should be plenty for the deer, doves, quail, and maybe a few messes for the farmer.
I'll put up a few pictures when the ears start filling out.
