Planting mini forest on wet field

Yes, swamp oak, sycamore, and walnut do well with wet feet. The far back side of my property is real low and holds water year round and the trees are huge. But, then again, I'm not familiar with your region. One concern I would have is the wind and would worry about the trees toppling over in time. I deal with that alot and my woods are in a valley sort of protected. You may want to contact the local forestry division and get some recommendations from them. Sometimes they will provide you plant stock to rehabilitate the habitat.

If it were me, I would do some woods, bog, and pond.

You may want to talk to your county ag office. I have a similar problem with a wet/damp field that i am tired of spending money to mow. I enrolled in the crp conservation reserve program, aka crep. The fed goverment is paying me to plant trees and shrubs on the property, i cannot cut the trees down for 15 years, but i do get a stipen to spray, and cost share on the cost of tree tubes, stakes, and trees. I will be planting next april and will put in approx 100 trees and 50 shrubs. Once i start planting i will post some pics. They also have lists of trees that will work in those areas, even if you dont enroll in the program. But if your going to plant why not have some help with the cost and planning?

Some other choices for trees who don't mind wet feet. River (Niger) Birch, Cypress, Larch (Tamareck), Willow if you like them.

well guys right before winter i went for it and got a small pond dug, the snow just melted and the water is still a bit high LOL but in a month or two it should go down some.. i used a little laser level and a pole to see if the ditch water is lower or not.. the ditch is about 275' away and if my cheap way of checking worked he pond is 11" higher then the ditch.. so i might build a little ditch to control the over flow.

now i need to aerate it and put some rocks and weed cloth around the edge so i can cut the grass around it.. and some fish so they eat the bugs:licking:

Appears it was dry enough to put a crop in near the pond last year.
Now you have the spoils to spread and build up the area around your pond for lawn and trees.
