Hello Fellow Gardeners,

I planted my early sweet corn today and thought I would share some pics and how I go about planting it.

Step 1: I take my middle buster and start the rows.

Step 2: I put calcium nitrate down in the rows.

Step 3: I put on my tractor rower and cover the calcium nitrate into the rows

Step 4: I take my rake and smooth out the top of the rows and get any clumps out to make pushing the seeder nice and smooth

Step 5: I take my corn seed and load it into my seeder and plant it down the rows.

Step 6: I put out my handy dandy moving head owl to keep the crows from eating all my seed.(most important step!!!)

Finally all corn seed has been planted. Takes around an hour to accomplish. Once the corn gets 2 feet or more I side dress the corn with more calcium nitrate and work my little tiller in between rows, and wait for the good Lord to bring the rain. Maybe some of you on here can share how you go about planting your corn.

One Last Thing: Got to thank the help!!! IMG_0287.JPG

That's a pretty sight. Your land looks like river bottom sandy loam to me. Lots of sweat going on there, even with the tractor helping... but especially that little helper. Hope you have a bountiful harvest.

Looks very good to me. I'd like to be set half that good. I like the nice straight rows, looks very professional. I can barely get my wife to plant two rows of corn.

Seriously, is all the watering from Mother Nature? I would like to grow more, but in my area I have to water it or it just will not grow. And, I have no water rights for the field.

Please post some pictures every 2-3 weeks so we can see the growth.

Cat fever,

The only thing in my garden that I make sure I water all the time are my tomatoes. I love my tomatoes. As far as the corn I always plant more than I need. That away if it is a dry year I will still yield enough to put up. If it is good wet year I give half of it away to family, friends, and co-workers.

I planted this variety mix for the cows first part of March. It came up good but has just kind of stopped growing. I think it needs to warm up some more.

Thanks, but trust me it gets real dry in about 1 or 2 more months.
