Is it just or does there seem to be an awful lot of plastic on these new subs. The hood, fenders, and floorboard guards are all plastic! Is this normal and if so does it matter?? I would think plastic would break and crack alot easier than metal also can repaint easier. This making sense to anyone??

There are a few out there, that do use metal (Mahindra,Massey Ferguson and Bobcat) to name a few.

I can certainly understand your concern. I remember when they first started using plastic and vinyl on the dashboards of cars instead of all metal. We just knew that wasn't going to last. And the first time I heard that our Plymouth police sedans had plastic pistons in the brake calipers, I could hardly believe it.

So is it normal, will it last, does it matter? I don't know, but obviously there are lots of different kinds of "plastic" so I guess if they use the right kind, we'll be OK.

I don't care for plastic on tractors, but that's probably because I am just old and stuck in my ways. I was disappointed with all the plastic on our 2305, but to date we haven't had issues and if plastic was a problem these forums would be full of complaints.

Oh, I use to say I would NEVER own a PLASTIC GUN; guess how many Glock pistols I have?

I don't have any concerns about the plastic as it seems to hold up very well. I should also add that it isn't a cheaper product than the sheetmetal either. When used for cowlings the plastic does reduce noise better than the sheetmetal. I don't see much difference in painting either plastic or metal, just some slight changes to preparing the surfaces.

Yep, and I have one of those plastic Sig Sauers. And I always said if it were up to me, I'd never allow a police officer to carry one of those trotline weights; AKA semi-automatic pistols. And now they're not even heavy enough to make a decent trotline weight. I still don't trust semi-autos if my life might depend on it, but I've never had this Sig malfunction so far.:D

And the first IR2131 impact wrench I got in for repair, I couldn't believe Ingersoll-Rand would make a plastic impact wrench. Of course they don't actually call it "plastic" they call it a "composite".:D

Man, that hurt to read, I have been downright gentle on mine.

My son in law just bought a "plastic" Sig 250, but I haven't shot it yet. My Sigs are the "classics" 220, 228 and 229. Before I said I would never own a plastic gun, I said I would never own one with an aluminum frame.

I use to not trust semi autos for good cause until Beretta, Sig, Glock etc. came along and became a convert. The last few years I worked my duty weapons were a Glock 23 and Glock 27; very dependable. Now I am retired, I still have several Glocks around, but usually drop an aluminum framed S&W 638 in my pocket.

"Plastics" etc. have come a long way and while I still don't "like" them, I can live with them; I am beginning to suspect I am way out of step; not quite a curmudgeon, but borderline.

Back about 89 or 90 I think it was, I was in a gun store at the counter looking to buy a new pistol for the wife, and the sales counter guy offered a Glock 17, I made some smart*** comment about durability and another customer who happened to be a Police Officer, said "watch this" and unloaded his Glock 17, field stripped it, and threw the frame on the floor and stomped on it. He said "we aren't too worried about durability" I was a little take aback about the demo, but still did not buy a Glock then, did buy later tho..:D Yep a Glock is a pretty tough pistol, "plastic" and all.
