Could I ask for a little further explanation of the utility of both the rear remotes and the remote loader control and valve?
Rear remotes are useful for highly desirable things like a hydraulic top and or side link, dump trailers, and any implement that may have a hydraulic cylinder. The fender mounted loader joystick is mainly a matter of convenience and ease of use. It's a $300 add on that you may or may not really need.

Also, a question about Rim Guard. I'm not planning to mow the lawn (I have a Deere X300) but will have to go across it (e.g. when spreading mulch). Presuming the ground is dry, will I do a number on the grass if I do this with loaded R4's?
Loaded tires provide ballast and stability. You will do a number on the grass with or without loaded tires when you make sharp turns on grass. Since you are not planning on mowing I would recommend loading the tires and Rim Guard is a very good option for that. Loader work requires plenty of ballast and loading the tires will allow you to not have the backhoe connected al the time.

Larry, no I don't believe I've met Paul Hurtig.

"Mad" Rim Guard sounds good (I've got a friend with a 2910 with calcium chloride). I wonder though, If I get the ballast box to use when the bh is off, would that be sufficient?

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on what you are doing and where you are doing it. Loaded tires also provide stability which a few hundred lb ballast box doesn't. I use Rim Guard loaded tires and usually a box scraper or grader blade for ballast. I am very seldom on flat ground.

H,

Just dealt with the same issues - I'm in Southeast Mass -and bought a b3030 - haven't even received it yet! From Advice on here, and various other places, I ended up with the following. Bear in mind I will be mowing with it, and have hilly / woody property.

Kubota b3030 hst w/r4 tires - all loaded. Didn't notice any problems with this on grass when test driving.

HD alternator, 2 work lights, and a 12v outlet (almost always useful...)

Loader with quick attach setup and 66" bucket (dealer through that in - heavier duty) with chain hooks and toothbar.

Woods 60 brush hog - I have a lot of woods to mow

60 mid mount mower - evidently the 72 will scalp on the hills. I'd have rather gotten the 72

Woods BH80x with thumb - thumb was reasonable, and seems incredibly useful

Woods 60 rototiller

Bradco pallet forks - surprisingly useful. Never would have guessed

Rear remotes, with hoses plumbed to the front - I plan on buying the cheap millonzi grapple other people on here have loved.

I'm planning on buying a box blade, and landscape rake from Tractor supply in CT. Their quality seemed fine for my use, and I'm less worried when its just metal with no gears involved

I filled my Ballast box with Quickcrete. Added about 450 lbs plus weight of box. I put a 2" reciever hitch in the box.

This allow me to move my trailers chipper and Trac-Vac when the box is on.
I do not have loaded tires. But there are times when I wish they were loaded when using the BH.

Hey, I saved money by not getting a cab! :) We all have our addictions - hi, I'm charles and I'm a tool junkie.

I've added the woods pl60 core aerator to the list, Neil gave me a price that was too good to turn down.

The pl60 rocks, you do have to load up the weight tray for the 4" plugs. I have found here in southeastern massachusetts, 560-650 lbs in the tray works well with average soil moisture! I have a 14 acre aeration monday in canton ma. (rolling hills) i will put 560 lbs in the weight tray & 210-280 lbs in the bucket for this gig.

Thanks, that's good to know. Do you use concrete blocks in the weight tray? I am having the tires foamed, so that should help.

Whats the soil like up there? Down here we have 2 kinds, sand and rocks. I was wondering a little about getting the core aerator until neil gave me such a good price as there is hardly any clay to be found. But I figure it will be good for overseeding, which I have to do a lot of with the fescue.

As far as a brush hog, how close are your trees together? I cut my woods twice a year and bought a BushHog 48" squealer and added homemade chainguards for just the purpose of cutting my woods, although it gets used other places as well. Most all brush hog type cutters now include chains/belting/bolt on strap steel guards as STANDARD equipment, but dealers can delete them as an option. Make sure with any price you get that you know if price does or does not include if you desire them. I did quite a bit of research on a light duty cutter that was not too expensive and chose the 48" Squealer, but overlookd one detail that bothers me to this day; BushHog does not make or supply any lift type blades on the 48" models, so any packed leaves or weeds that are tall enough to be laying over will not be cut well. We have ran my friends 60" cutter over the wider parts just to compare and lift type blades do much better, but with much more dust. Other brands of cutters do offer lift type blades on 48" models. BushHog's story was that if the blades became overlapped and stuck, that the short blades sometimes would not seperate even when run at high speed so flat/stalk blades are all that is offered. My woods look so good when all mulched up. As for the spark arrestor; does Kubota offer an insert or external clamp on end or is the whole muffler assy different? I noticed several 4wheelers type vehicles with just a clamp on end that steps up to about 1.5 times the diameter with a fine screen wire to trap any hot carbon particles. The larger diameter keeps backpressure down to prob the same level as without the arrestor. They do have a USFS approved number stamped on the arrestor.
