Please help me identify this mower

I just bought this John Deere mower from a neighbor and am trying to determine the model.


One part has the following number on it: Z651H+ It seems to be the gearbox cover. The box it mates to says Z1038-H+. I couldn't find either of these parts on the JD website.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to remember the differences between a #5 and #9 JD mower and can't. Thinking that the u-joint style leans towards the earlier #5.

Contact Ken Sweet at Sweet Farm Equipment. He seems to have tons of mowers around and probably knows lots about them.

Looks like a 5 to me. A 9 is 3 point hitch. Ken Sweet
