Sorry, ours has three ranges with hydro drive and four wheel drive. It is only 34 hp but all we need as we are just hobby groundtenders. We have about 100 acres to keep up with, but don't as time is a factor, both working full time jobs. Having grown up on the same farm i'm use to being around tractors. The biggest one we had when we had milk cows was only 38 hp 2 wheel drive and no power steering (two AC WDs and one AC C) So the Mahindra is a dream come true, steers easier than the wife's John Deere garden tractor!!!Bigger isnt always better in my book, just depends on what your doing.

Cindy and I are in the hobby category. If we spend $3 or $4K less on a smaller tractor, that money could pay for the occasional job that's too big for our tractor. In the mean time it seems like we would enjoy better fuel efficiency and be able to get into tight places better, like in the wooded area and around the pond. Of course I'm just guessing.

The pickin's for hydro in the used 40-50 HP range are pretty slim. You are basically looking for a TC 40, TC 45 or one of the larger Kubota Grand L tractors. You won't find one of those used in the $16-$18K range very often.

Without the hydro requirement you can get NEW Mahindras pretty close to your target price. My 4110 (41 hp) was $19,300 new in May '05, and could probably be purchased for about that same price in Georgia now. It has 4wd and FEL, but no hydro.

If you downsize just a touch you can get a new Mahindra with hydro and loader in your price range. The 3215 Mahindra has hydro, 4WD, and can be purchased new with a FEL in your budget range. Farm tractors for Ag Farmers, Hobby Farmers - Sub Compact, Compact & Full Size 2WD & 4WD Utility Tractors It will do the driveway maintenance you are wanting done, can handle a rough cut or finish mower, etc. Here is the link: Farm tractors for Ag Farmers, Hobby Farmers - Sub Compact, Compact & Full Size 2WD & 4WD Utility Tractors A lot of times the MSRP prices shown are going to be close to the price of the tractor with FEL.

Thanks Keith_B, I appreciate the links. I did look at that tractor when I checked out the Mahindra website, but most people have been steering me towards more HP. Still, I can see some advantages to a smaller tractor and if I go in that direction I'll definitely check this one out.

Try the 3215 HST out and then you will know if the tractor will do your job. I think you will be surprised at the 3215 capabilities. Good Luck!

Okay. Only the smaller Mahindras offer HST right? Their website is a little difficult to use...

Also remember your talking about diesel horsepower and not what most americans are used to in gas engine horsepower, two totaly different animals. The smaller hp tractors in the mid 30's hp range will do much more than one might think, and having both woods and an orchard, clearances can be tight around the trees and a larger tractor might get into trouble with the tight spot, where as a smaller machine would be more versitile. Go down to the dealer and actualy drive the machines, get a feel for the size and its power. Even my small yanmar will do quite a lot with 13hp, but its a diesel with a broad torque range. It will be perfect for our small patch of land once the motor is done being rebuilt. Localy the Mahindra has been making inroads into a normaly Kubota and John Deere dominated market. I havent really heard anything bad about them. Good luck with your decision. Mike and Michele T
