I'm in an area where we don't get huge amounts of rain, and I don't need to use fert on what I'm gonna grow if i have it seeded one year, summerfallow the next, then seeded again... And so on. (I'm gonna run this like an "atv sized farm") on summerfallow (it'll have been worked with a disc, so it will be fairly ridge free) should i take some old cultivator spikes and make something to chisel it to rough it up to catch snow? Or is it a waste of time and one more unnecessary tillage pass?

With the work that you will be putting in your food plot, you really should do a soil test. A small price to pay (should cost 8-10 dollars per sample) to know what the soil needs. Lime, fertilizer etc.

I don't know the blend off hand but, I would use the same fert I use on the rest of my farm. What does lime do anyway?
