I might have a lead on a 60 inch plow from a grasshopper mower. My first question is, should I weld it to an attachment plate solid or hinged and lift it with a chain by curling it back? Also it seems like if I mount it with the chain and use the full length of the frame it would be about 2 and a half feet in front of the plate. This seems to have advantages and disadvantages. The further out front it is the less maneuverable it would be. On the other hand it would stack snow a lot higher. What does everyone think?

my 2 cents- my brother in law had a rigid mounted truck plow on his kubota, the following season I modified it to pivot and lift with a chain by using the curl function (those hidden objects and instantaneous stops are painful) please bear in mind my brother in law could destroy an anvil with a rubber mallet

Your BIL didn't mary my sister in law, did he? I never take anything for repair to my BIL any more. He is fully capable, but not very delicate. It is no wonder he stopped working as a mechanic and became a teacher, the shop could not keep up with all the things he broke.

If you have springs on the blade, you do not need the chain setup in my opinion. Where i liked having a chain is that once you got everything adjusted like you want, curl down until the chain is taut and you are always back to a perfect setup

You can actually make a plow frame that then mounts to your tractor by sliding your forks into the frame and then pin them in place. Works pretty well.

I have a seperate attachment plate I am going to use. Does it look like it would stick out too far to be practical? Sometimes you are stuck with what you get, but I figure since I have the chance to make it longer or shorter I want to get it just right. What is everyones experience with this?

Scott,

I purchased a plate and then had it rigidly mounted to the A-Frame of an old Meyer 90" plow. Here are some pics. Just finished this project last week:thumbsup:.

This may be cheating. Take a look on the Kubota Website at some of their setups. I went with the quick connect adaptor setup for the Kubota F series front rotary mower deck tractor to their tip up dozer (snow) blade. I already had a quick connect adaptor from the long defunct Aquillon Company (bankrupt 1994). I made the "shoe" on the back of the plow in the weld shop. Found it would easily accept any number of 50" blade manufacturers. Really like the use of that Quick Connect adapter - cause I have a number of other implements it now works with - can change out my implement with just a twist of the release lever (after removing the safety locking pin of course). While I am on the subject - the catalogue of attachable implements on that website - is fairly representative I what my stable of attachments has become, been using it as my bible for ideas.
