I wrapped the threds with teflon and cranked them down tight and hope that solves the problem.

There was some discussion on teflon and hydraulics somewhere, but I don't remember where. The concern was something to do with the teflon getting into the fluid if care was not taken when installing the fitting. Anyway, just something to search for on google some day when it's cold and rainy outside.... like tonight. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

sedgewood, if you do try those chains, please post how you make out. I'm considering a set for the 1430 but don't know if there's enough clearance on inside of tires.

The chains arrived yesterday - it may be a while before I can get to try them. My thinking is if I mount them so they sit a bit off center toward the outside of the tire they should clear ok. When I get to it I'll post a report. My new plow skid pucks have so dramatically reduced the crabbing I may seldom need the chains now. If I had known that the pucks would affect the crabbing I may not have ordered the chains. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Half of that 18 inches of snow melted overnight,

Received three inches new wet snow last night so had a chance to test out the new horse mat lip on the blade. Worked very well on gravel but did not get as close on the pavement but not bad. All in all, glad I put it on.

Whoo hoo!! Just used the PT for the first time in a month on a massive 1.5" snowfall /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just couldn't stand it anymore and had to drive the poor thing. The battery seems kind of low, so tomorrow I install the trickle charger pigtail to the battery.

Sedgewood, I'm still interested in how you made out installing chains on the PT. If you did install them, was there enough clearance? Thanks.

Got 3-4" more yesterday... Yearly total now = a whole 5". Whoopy! Man, if we don't get some snow or rain, we'll be in a serious drought next year.

Ooops, sorry Reg,

Yes I did install them. They work fine with enough clearance except for the one I managed to get on a bit crooked which rubs lightly on the top of the brake caliper mount and keeps it nicely polished. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I did try to mount them biased a bit toward the outside to maximize clearance to the caliper mount.

What I bought was one pair of Gempler's #68524 "Diamond Pattern" studded ATV chains and mounted them on the front wheels. They work well. No more crabbing or wheel spin.

So you're 1 for 2. Good stats for a hitter, but I haven't checked the record books for chain installation.

When you get a moment, I'd appreciate your measuring and posting the minimum clearance between your tire and brake caliper. I don't know if the sidewalls on my turfs are the same configuration as your bar treads. To my eye, there doesn't seem to be room for chains, but I'd sure like a set just in case we get another of those 20+" storms. It would be nice to be able to power through a higher pile and handle a bit steeper hills.
