Hello folks,
I would like to use my BX24 for plowing snow this year and need advice on which snow plow to buy. The OEM front blade with mounts will cost me $2350 from the dealer where as a 60" wide snow plow from BXexpanded will cost about $1200 with shipping. The disadvantage I see with the BXexpanded plow is since it attaches to the front end loader bucket, the tractor/plow combination is pretty long making it a it less maneuverable than using the OEM plow. I have read a few reviews on the 60" wide BXexpanded plow and people praise it construction quality and functionality. I am hoping the 4 wheel drive BX24 will allow me to plow without having to use tire chains since I put in a asphalt driveway a couple of months ago and don't want to start tearing it up due to tire chains. What are members of this forum using for snow plows? Recommendations?

Many Thanks!!

Jim

I was waaay to cheap to buy either... For my B series, I bought a 6.5 plow off ebay, $250 and fabbed my own bucket mounts... For the first season it was manual angle, but I added hydraulics the second year..I also cut the blade down 6" to loose some weight

No issue with manuvering... There is a bit more weight on the end which can be good and bad... The added length allowed me to push pile the snow right up... more so than on a shorter mount... Just another option...

Also, This way I could plow w the blade and then quick unmount and use the bucket if needed...

BTW, I now use a 3 pt snowblower.. Its certainly the way to go, Thru that snow way out of your way!

Hello Firefighter,
Your setup gives me yet another option. Nice setup! Nice job mounting the plow, with the mounting tabs inside the bucket, the overall length is shorter. Thanks!

I have a Curtis plow for my BX24. This requires me to remove the loader bucket. The Curtis plow works great. Has all the hydraulic functions that the loader bucket would normally have. So, you don't have to get off the tractor while plowing to change the angulation of the plow. Only negative is that I don't have the use of the loader bucket all winter.
I have chains on all four wheels. Without chains, I have found that in icy conditions, the BX24 does not have enough weight and my tires start spinning. With the chains on, I never have a problem with traction or getting stuck.
I just added a pto snowblower to the BX24. During a heavy winter, I can not push the snow far enough back from the driveway with the plow and the snow banks narrow the driveway. With the blower, I should be able to blow the snow far away from the driveway.

Used plow blades are a dime a dozen on Craig's list. I would pick one of those up and have a local welder fab up the mounts for your tractor. I actually like mounting it to the bucket if the dismount process is easy so you can switch back to the regular bucket set up quickly.

Not quite sure how much snow in your parts of NY............but I took a similar decision route as you by thinking I needed a plow on my BX so I mounted a ATV plow to it (on back) so I would still have use of the bucket......however two seasons later I realized that a snow blower on the back for $2400 solved all my problems, no more high banks and still able to use the bucket.

I would advise you to always have a set of chains on hand in case you need them. Most of us buy fire insurance and hopefully we don't have to use it. I use chains all winter long and they have yet to do any damage to my driveway.

I made a mount for a Polaris snow blade I had and added a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower it. A couple years later I added another cylinder to angle it. Been using it for 3 years now to plow a 1/4 mile roadway. Up to 10" snow. Never needed chains, I can't remember my turf tires ever slipping. My little BX will push like a bulldozer.
