Hi everyone,

I have a jd 650 - 18 horse diesel , two wheel drive.

I would like to get a plow, a disk and make some food plots.

But should i purchase a two bottom or one bottom plow ?

the ground has not been turned in 5 years, its a mixture

of clay and loam.

thanks for the help.

id stick to a one bottom 12"

you dont have enough HP to pull 2 bottom.

schmism,

i don't see too many one bottom plows out there where i live,
is it possible to take one of plows off a two bottom plow and
still use it effectively ?

I have a Howse 2 bottom 12" plow and I've taken one bottom off to plow in thick sod. I use a 30 Hp. 4wd Kubota B7800 with loaded ag. type tires.

Back in the day, tractors with simular hp could pull a 2-bottom plow SLOWLY..... The difference is, those tractors typically weighed quite a bit more than your 650. In YOUR case, I'd stick with a single bottom plow. You'll be much better off. (Take a look at the NEW Leinback singles for compact tractors)

chipmaker , I'm with Egon. Roto tiller.
We 've a L185 Kubota thats light and has a hard time with ground engaging equipment until we put a land pride 4' reverse tine tiller behind it. A little expensive @ 1350. ( we shopped around ) but it saves a tremendous amount of time and after usually 2 passes You are ready to cultipack and plant.

Go with the Leinbach model 19-12. It would pull very easily with your 650. I use one on my TC18. You can see it in my photos.

I'll hope on this boat too. My FIL is a long time tobacco farmer, but also has about a acre in a private garden. When I got my B2920 I got a reversing tiller with it. I took the tractor with tiller attached to his place to show it to him, and he asked me to return the next day to till his garden. So I took it over and he loves it. I was letting him do the tilling and his son (my BIL) came by to watch and after examining the ground that had been tilled he said, "I've been after pop for years to get one of these. Look how nice and soft it leaves the ground." I have to agree. No big dirt clods, just real soft ground up soil. It's really perfect for a family garden. They have plows and scarpers (sp?) and the tiller is now their implement of choice for preparing their garden.

Thank for the advice guy's - but i have more ambition than money

so the tiller is not a option for me right now.

although i could see buying one in the future.

i may have to buy a two bottom plow and just take one half of it off.

two bottom plows around here are easy to find, not so with one bottom.
