I have a TC-40D, which I added a Rhino FEL to. It does NOT have a rear remote, darnit.

I want to build a 3pt log splitter with its own control valve and plug it into the hydraulics somehow.

Is my only option to add the (now pricey) rear remote, or is there a way I can plug into the FEL quick connect panel to feed the splitter?

I'm mechanically okay, but hydraulically stupid. Appreciate any help.

Yes, the quick-connects going to your FEL are very similar to rear remotes. If you remove the FEL, it will make it easier to hook up. If you leave the FEL attached, lower the bucket to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve pressure with the joystick before connecting the log splitter.

Does the log splitter have an open center valve or any valve? If it has no valve, you will have to use the joystick to control it. If it has a valve, you may be able to bungee the joystick and operate the valve on the splitter. I would use the joystick curl circuit because the FEL lift circuit probably has a float position. If you inadvertenly get into float position, it will render the splitter inoperative.

You could also add a power beyond kit to your 40D to power your splitter. I'm sure it will be much cheaper than a rear remote. They are also pretty easy to install.

Appreciate the inputs. Help here is priceless.

I was planning on using an open center valve, as soon as I can figure out the most affordable one to use (it eliminates "sophisticated" linkages to fadiddle with the joystick/hydraulic levers). So, as I understand it, I could get long hoses and plug into the FEL, bungee the joystick for pressure, and control the splitter with it's open center control valve, right?

And the other option is to add a Power Beyond port; would that have quick connects? Do I understand correctly that a Pwr Beyond gives you hydraulic power but no control valve to manage it? I ran into the power beyond issue when I installed the FEL; had to talk to the dealer/rhino rep to sort out which line went into which port.

Last, I read that the TC-40D is the same as a Case DX-40. Anyone know if their remotes are less expensive? I know I would still be in the "bungee" issue with remotes, but sure could be handy down the road.

thanks again for your help!

Power Beyond does give you hydraulic power but no control valve to manage. This is the means NH uses to connect a BH into the hydraulic system since the BH has it's own control stack.

Bower beyond doesn't interfere with adding remotes. I installed 3 rear remotes on our 40D and it also has the power beyond.

The red cap in the picture is the power beyond return to tank line. You can see that it's threaded into the end plate on the 3 remote valve stack.

We have a 40DA w/the factory 3pack remotes. If the "red cap" on yours is the return to tank, where's the supply come from?

The supply is picked up mid-point on the tractor at the hose from the joystick power beyond port that normally ties into the hydraulic manifold block.

This picture shows the normal configuration.

When you need to connect the BH you disconnect the female QC from the manifold block and plug the supply from the BH up to the then disconnected female QC. Another red cap then gets put on the male end of the QC at the manifold block to keep the connector clean. Understand?

BTW: This connection temporarily disables the 3-point lift mechanism for safety reasons.

I assume the same is true for the TC33 series?

as i have a little red cap peaking out from the rear of my tractor... (and have 2 rear remotes in boxes waiting to be installed)

is there any flow rate diff between the power beyond point and pulling off a rear remote and tieing the lever "open"?
