I just put a thorn through my new rear turf tire on my Kubota B2150. Tire has new tube and is calcium filled. I haven't lost any calcium since thorn is on top and I have lifted tire off the ground.
Do you think I would have any luck removing thorn and plugging through both tire and tube. My alternative is having tire drained, dismounted, patched from inside, etc. Wheel probably weighs 350 lbs.
Any thoughts??

No I don't think the plugging will work. You will have to drain the calcium and remove/patch the tube.

Plugs usually work very well in tubeless tires; never knew of one to work in a tube, although I can't say for sure it's never been done.

I worked for a tire service when I was in High School. O.K., that was light years ago /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, so maybe technology has improved things since then. But we never tried plugging a tube. Like Bird said, you only plug the tubeless.

So pull the tube, patch the inside of the tire (if necessary because the hole is ragged), and put a patch on the tube! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to work at a tire and retread shop years ago. The thought of plugging a tube never crossed anyones mind. I suppose you could try it.

Is the tire a tubeless type? If so it will work but you may not keep all the fluid in the tube. However that would introduce another problem of not keeping the entire rim covered in fluid.

I would drain it and patch the tube.

Yep.. my vote is pull off/dismount.. drain.. patch tube.. patch inside of tire with a nice thick farm patch.

If thornes are going to be a problem in the future. Then I would say when you get the tire repaired leave the tube out and put the non corrosive ballast in. Next thorne you can just plug the tire while it is on the tractor.

Might even put in a heavy boot btween the tire and tube.. give it another 1/4 inch thorn protection..
