If I read it right, the Miller gives you 150 amps DC, the Lincoln 125. Don't know how important that is, but if both are the same price, I think I'd go with the Miller.

Where is the Hobart made? Color me stupid, too! I'm sick of buyin' foreign stuff and much of it poorer quality... I'll pay more for USA and I look for that as much as possible when I buy.

I’ve been looking at welders for a couple of months, so I have followed this thread with a lot of interest.

I was looking at Northern’s website today and found this Hobart LX 235 AC/160 DC welder for $399.99 (see link below). I put my zip code into the shipping calculator and for standard shipping it said $0. If I am looking at these numbers right, that is a savings of $200.00.

Something else that I found interesting when I was doing a side by side comparison. Look at the attached picture and tell me if you see any resemblance in these 2 welders.

Well... downright uncanny! Somebody messed up with the white paint!

And I guess the amp dial, too. They let the Hobart turn another quarter turn.

Could you TIG with these smaller boxes? Either the Miller or the Hobart? Thanks.

I know, it's kinda odd they just happen to look alike. What are the chances of that happening again?

I dont know if these would handle TIG or not. Some of the other fellows on here will know. I can stick weld OK but I've never tried to TIG. A friend of mine runs a welding shop, so if I need anything that fancy, I just take it to him.

I had been leaning towards buying a Miller, but after comparing it to the Hobart, I think I like the idea of saving $200.00. That will give me a head start on the next toy that I want to buy.:D

Miller is the parent company of Hobart so they will look alike with some minor changes like Paint and some inside stuff, I have no idea what on the stick machines....on the mig units the drive units are different.
