Seems like I get chiggers every year and it's hard decision what is worse. I used Off and long pants and still look like spotted leopard and itch like crazy.

I bathe it in salty water to dry it out, anybody has a better way?

Once you start itching the bugs are already gone. Nothing you can do but ease the itching.

No chiggers where I live now, but I've had chiggers, poison ivy and poison oak. Poision oak is the worst by far!

We use one of the Benydryl type of anti itch gels. The stuff will cover a lot of skin with a little bit of gel. Which is what you need with Chiggers. :( I think the brand we are using at the moment in Calamine.

The gel helps. The chiggers don't bother me as much as they used too. In the past I would take Benydryl to help the itching as well.

Other than those two things they only other thing that works is to scratch them.

I have tried all sorts of "treatments" and only the above has worked for us.

I somehow got some Chiggers last weekend. I was sitting in what we call the barn working on the DR. Then I put on the rotary cutter and bucket on the FEL. Checked the slip clutch and mowed. I did not go into any place the chiggers should go but they got me. AND was wearing long pants tucked in the socks all DEETED up. The only thing I can figure is the chiggers climbed on the tractor when mowing, found me, and had lunch.

Good Luck,
Dan

I have found something that will work for the chigger itch. It is Solacaine Aloe Gel Plus. It's made for sunburn relief but it works on the itch too. It will take 15 to 20 minutes to start working but it will work.

Give it a try.

I spray my socks, shoes, and pant legs up to the knee with deet, and that seems to cut down on chigger bites for me. They're bad around here, and they itch me like crazy for days.

IIRC, they hang out on weed blades and leaf tips waiting for a host to come by and make contact. After gaining access to the host, they deposit an enzyme at a hair follicle that dissolves tissue, then they dine on the slush and drop off. The itching begins much later.

Cannot help with Chigger itch. But when we attended a TBN get together in TX a couple years ago. Jim (jinman) had us powder our ankles with a Sulfur bag. Must be good stuff. Did not have any problems with Chiggers.
