Poison Ivy or something else?

I agree with the allergic reaction with the cream you put on. Only way to test that theory is to do the same thing you did that day without the same clothes you used or any of the same cream.
Also the gloves you used are imbedded with the cream which keeps causing a reaction everytimg you use them is another indicator of it from something from inside the clothes.

The Ivy block may also be a bad batch or the chemicals have broken down into something not good for you.

I agree this is not the clinical picture of Poison Ivy. How about Giant Hogweed?

If I even have a dream about poison ivy I'll get it. This stuff called "Tecnu" is amazing. After working in the woods shower with it and no poison. It might even work with whatever caused your reaction.

Have you consulted a doctor at all for any of this?

sounds to me to be an allergic reaction as well, P.I. is generally concentrated in spots, which can and will spread leaving blisters with puss in them every where it comes in contact, more of a chemical burn / reaction than what you are referring to, (the ring finger may have been P.I. with the large blister but more than likely was the ring rubbing on it and like some one mentioned concentrated the barrier cream there making the reaction worse. that is just what my opinion is not a doc ere... try washing the gloves and clothing in dawn dish soap which removes oils MUCH better than ave laundry soap.

in fact when I'm pulling P.I. I wash afterwards with dawn in 2 steps once with cold water with full cold rinse then hot water with rinse then std shower gell/soap full wash. use hose outside for first washes to prevent bringing the P.I. oils inside. strip naked ASAP and head for shower then TIME is very important when it comes to getting oils off as fast as possible for least problems. I can walk/work in P.I. dang near naked and not get nearly a bubble, while my woman will have it every where on her when she only petted the dog who was out back in the yard only... She like "Zanfel" to relieve the itching & burning but it is dang expensive ~30.00 for a 4oz tube at pharmacy. 1.3 of the time when she gets it she needs a shot at doc office too...

This is a scary reaction. As a guy who goes to the Dr. every time I get poison ivy I would definately see yours about this rash. Kinda reminds me of that scene with Will Smith in 'Hitch' when he ate seafood - with a reaction like that, you go to the emergency room!

No, it went away within a few days and I never felt like it was crisis level.

I'm just trying to figure out what it is I need to look out for.

Rhode Island, right on the coast.

Quicksandfarmer, Are you located near Quicksand pond in Little Compton? I am located on the Longhighway side. I usually wash off with cold water first, warm water opens pores and helps poison ivy etc spread faster.
Glad you had a quick recovery.

I thought I'd update this thread because I think I have an answer. On my property I have a lot of Queen Anne's Lace, AKA Wild Carrot. Today I read this:

"The leaves of the wild carrot can cause phytophotodermatitis, so caution should also be used when handling the plant."

Here's the Wikipedia link to phytophotodermatitis:
Phytophotodermatitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sounds like exactly what I had. Makes sense now.
