They cost $1300 now in 2010,what will the price be in 2014 or 2015?
One "salesman" told me that any equivilant deep cycle battery should replace the original battery group.
Hmmm,Still researching...

Car dealers are not enthusiastic about taking used electric cars on trade because for resale the new purchaser will demand new batteries and they are as you mentioned very expensive. So after 3-5 years you are stuck with the electric vehicle because the dealers don't want them on their lot.

Another point. With the electric grid system under stress now, switching to electric utvs makes no sense as you are just increasing demand on a system that is already in trouble.

I like the concept of quiet running and ease of maintenance. Motor will probably out last owner. But at what cost and will more consumers move to this option in the future.

IMHO the golf cart is the answer. Smaller, lighter and made for casual use. But for a UTV, electric is the wrong solution.

I have an Polaris EV and think it's an excellent piece of equipment. I recently installed solar panels and produce a surplus of electricity so it was a good fit.
As far as someone's statement about an "overtaxed power grid" my suggestion is to charge it overnight when grid demand is low, unless you have solar power available.
The EV Ranger tows over 1200 pounds and I've had no trouble hauling stuff around with it over pretty hilly terrain on the VA/WV border. I normally don't even use the 4 wheel drive or low range unless I'm pulling a heavy load.
As far as replacing the batteries, I would think any good quality deep cycle batteries would work fine as long as they are matched. When I first built my place I was off-grid and used NAPA Stowaway batteries which were identical to a battery sold by a solar power company but a hundred bucks cheaper each. Those batteries have held up well over many years with proper maintenance.

You need to look at the converter to go from 48v-12v and the prices for the two extra batteries to just put a winch on the thing. Think I will keep the RTV for now.

Yesterday I was at Sams Club and they had a new electric utv out front.
Did a search here but showed nothing. They're on the high $ side at $10999.
base price. It looks like the decked out price is around 14k!!
They seem to be a lot heavier duty than a golf cart.
The quietness and capacity are really appealing.
Anyone have one?

I have a 2010 and it was the worst purchase ever. The batteries are over $2000. The EV's had defective chargers that weakened the batteries & Polaris will not do a thing to help. The charger was replaced under the extended warranty but the battery damage is not. Do Not buy it.
