Been a while since my last post, but I am in the process of building a pole barn to house my tractors :) . I got an estimate for the concrete and my jaw dropped. Here it is

26X37 barn floor - 4 inches thick (this is something around 12 ish yards)
Fiber re-inforced conrete.
4 inches stone - plate compacted.
poured, finished smooth, saw cut and sealed.

$3900 - 4100.

Does that seem out of line? I am in Ohio.

In June05 I had a slab poured for my garage/shop.

24x42 ft
6" thick, 4000 psi concrete
#4 rebar criss-crossed on 24" centers
Visqueen plastic vapor barrier
Two rows of #5 rebar in the perimeter footing
4" gravel compacted
Smooth finish, saw cuts to control checking

Cost: $7500

That is one heck of a floor. I am not sure I can make the comparison

Best way to find out is to get another quote from a second contractor in your area. Around here the biggest variable in cost is your distance from the concrete yard. The further you are, the more it costs. As an example, we ordered some #53 rock for our drive about a month ago. We paid $200/tri-axle for it. My BIL's sister ordered the same rock for her drive a week earlier and paid $250/tri-axle for it. She lives another 35 minutes farther from the rock yard than I do.

That comes to about $4 per square foot including the rock. It is a fair price. I like to see some of his work and if it turned out OK, I'd hire him before he gets to busy to do yours.

$4/SF is what we charge for concrete work and pretty much what you'll find out there. If you like the guy, go for it.

Can't judge on one quote alone. I had a quote came in at 17k, got another quote and it was 10K. I was scared of the 10k, but went for it watching the guys like a hawk. They did as contracted - and more. 7k in my pocket.

Mine was $11,000. 40x64 for the inside. 40x25 for one slab, and 20x20 for another slab, along with sidewalks. This was in Spring of 06.

We just built our house and in the process of finishing off our garage. Here is the quote that I received from the mason we went with.

28x30 Garage Foundation Attached to Mud-room
Specifications:
-10"x20" continuous footings with 2 courses #4 rebar
-4'x8" poured walls
-4" concrete floor with 6 mil poly vapor barrier, 1/2" expansion
joints, power trowel finish
-1/2" x8" anchor bolts 6' o.c.
Estimated Labor and Materials: $6,550.00

They ended up needing to go a little deeper than 4' for the footer walls in order to attach to the house. But overall it came out great. We have to do the 4' footer here due to the heaving of the ground during frost in upstate NY. Hope this helps.

I,m a N. ca. Gen contr. I would charge You around $10 a sq. ft. total $9000.00
This is from My est. book adjusted for this area. You are getting a deal.
Maybe this is why I live in a $900,000 home
