Pole barn, what size?

No matter what you do, my experience is that once it's done and paid for, you will regret only the things you didn't include, not what you did. If you think you might want it, find a way to include it or allow it to be easily added.

X2, this is good advise.

If i was to do it again, I'd get me a Urinal at least, if not a complete washroom with shower since it's heated anyway. Go big now regardless of cost because prices will only climb down the road.

I've always thought that having a urinal would be a great idea, but when pricing them and the real estate they take up, I'll just walk outside and water the bushes.

A urinal is a waste of money! You gotta run lines-just go outside that's the benefits of living in the country! Now city people need them or get arested

Mine is 30x40 with 12x12 doors at each end, so the summer breeze can blow through when I am in there working on something.

Note the skylight panels on the side wall, They sure let in a lot of light. All of my power tools, work bench and hydraulic press are on castors, so I can store them out of the way.

It also has a shed on one side, with a gravel floor.

It cost 15K including concrete, it was built buy a local guy in November of 2011.

The best quote I got for a 30x40, plain vanilla, metal walls and roof, 12 foot double sliding doors, one 4 foot entrance door, no concrete, 4/12 pitch, $8650 all materials only, delivered to the site in TN.

Built my house for around $50 sf, but that was almost 20 yrs ago.
I had my custom designed house build 6 years ago for around $65 per square foot. My house has about the same heated sq. ft. as the pole barn but also has a 30x30 garage, a 10x22 front porch and a 12 x44 rear patio deck (under the deck is a concrete slab). I fail to see how a pole barn could cost more than a house to build even if you are in the frozen north where things cost a bit more.

I went with a commode in my shop rather than a urinal (urinals are much more money than a commode) and a large wash sink. I designed the size of the bathroom to have a shower but thought better of it. It would be a PIA to keep clean and keep all the necessary toiletries and towels needed. I just deleted the shower and use all that area as storage for some things like hydraulic oils and spare filters, pesticides, herbicides etc. My plumber said that I had enough slope to carry the effluent without a septic tank but convinced me that it would be safer to put in a small septic tank and then just dump the overflow water into my house field lines. It wasn't that much more to put in a tank and I don't have to worry about my 75-100 feet of sewer line stopping up.
