This is the breakfast bar i made for the house . It was made out of the galvanised 3mm steel plate i bought to make the center section of a new grass slasher i am building . I got an "urge" to make the breakfast bar one morning and while looking at this new piece of steel with it's folded sides sitting in my shed , i thought , that would be perfect . I had already made the timber top out of an piece of scrap Blue Gum that used to be my car sevice ramp . After bending the sheet into the shape (putting it on some timber and jumping on it) i then screwed the timber to the top flange . Then i clad the steel with a product called mini orb , which is what i made the cupboard door infill panels with . I then attached a heap of "L" brackets to the back side for the shelving . It will have a skirting board and some vertical timber strips to match the cupboards in the background . After cutting the edges of the timber on a slant it was a quick sand and a couple of coats of Polyester clear . It a little rough , but i can get away with that , i just say it's supposed to look rustic . I have just brought it back inside after doing all the sanding on the deck as it would have filled the house with dust . I'm now having a rest and a beer . Hope you like .
I'm not clear how you use it, or what your version of a breakfast bar is, but that's one beautiful piece of furniture. One worthy of the view!!!!
I'm thinking you put a big chair behind it and set up your computer on the top right were it's at in that last picture. It looks like an awesome desk, and what better place to call your office then right there?
Thank's Eddie , it's just a kitchen work place , a place to prepare food etc . You stand in the center and everything is within reach . The sink and drawers are directly behind you and the stove and fridge to the left (in the photo) There will be two rustic swivel bar stools on the outside where i can sit and have my Coco Pops .
I'm still looking for a timber slab to put on top of the tree trunk with the hole in it so i can finish the dining room table (previous photos) . I don't think anyone is going to steal my furniture , the only thing they could lift is the DVD player .
Eddie , These slabs where cut on a Canadian ( sawmill breakdown saw) . I am looking for a portable bandsaw to cut some of the large timber that is left after i remove trees from peoples properties . A bedhead , shelves beside the kitchen cupboards and as you say , a computor desk is next on the list .
Jim , It's hard to believe what is under all that grey half rotted timber that is just thrown away . The colour and the faults just come up beautifully with some elbow grease .
Mommy was very impressed when she came home yesterday and spotted the breakfast bar .
Man, I am envious. You have a great place there. I have always dreamed of visiting Australia. Maybe someday, after my wife's dream of visiting her ancestral home in Ireland. Beautiful work there.
